Damn, I wasn't expecting such a level from such a lesser-known album... It certainly deserves more recognition. Trip hop wise I'd say it stands alongside albums like Mezzanine. Baxter really takes you on a journey through a dark, lonely city. The vocals are angelic, intimate, and emotionally charged, it really adds a nice touch of delicacy on the very rhythmic production. Well damn this was kinda underwhelming but it’s still a solid record. Baxter’s self titled album is an alright Trip Hop album with blends of Drum & Bass and Broken Beat. There’s good tracks throughout the album but nothing on here I’d call great. Except for maybe the lowest rated track on here, I really do not understand why So a Much I’ve Heard is the lowest rated one that track was my personal favorite but I guess I get it….. Over the course of 10 songs, Baxter takes us on a trip through heartbreak, lonliness and other personal struggles through structured drum n bass music. Although these songs feel like they just would turn out like regular pop songs, instead they hit us with this juxtaposition of her very soothing beautiful voice and these eclectic almost jazzy dnb instrumentals.
In my opinion, the only album i can say sounds somewhat similar too this is dummy by portishead, and i say that as a compliment.
