Synthetic or acoustic percussion, Perspective is another release that demonstrates Jlin is a genre unto herself and way ahead of the electronic music curve.
The gorgeous "Duality" is driven by rippling mallet percussion and chimes, bringing to mind the arrangements of Dan Deacon's more post-minimalist work. There's a lightness and optimism to the piece that just feels inspiring and refreshing.
Perspective is beautiful as far as hypnotic deconstructions of form and meaning go. Footwork is beautiful as far as cerebral analyses of art go. But above all, it is playful in a way not immediately obvious, nor outwardly intentional. It is angular and harsh, but only in a way fresh off the conveyor belt sleek futuristic product can be.
Perspective is Jlin at her finest and most pure. When you're this incredibly talented ‒ with the ideas, imagination and heart to match ‒ you don't need any gimmicks.

That album got nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, so this EP is basically the electronic remix of Jlin’s ... read more
