Not much out there that is just like this.
Julian Koster (Neutral Milk Hotel, The Music Tapes) and his singing saws join a 3-piece jazz band. Lyrically/vocally Koster does something a bit different when compared to his previous Music Tapes albums. The album has a few longer songs, but mostly quick little lounge tunes some of which are instrumentals. Its nothing so technically amazing, but it still has so much charm in that special Julian Koster kind of way.
This album nails the old time-y sound perfectly, and the singing at points reminded me of Daniel Johnston. This album certainly has a unique sound that I haven't heard in any modern album, the production sounds washed out, but in a good way. That being said, this isn't the most memorable thing in the world, especially when you look past the pretty unique atmosphere.
