Some context here: this is the brainchild of Heather McIntosh, a composer who’s quite prolific in the music industry, previously touring as a cellist for Lil Wayne and Gnarls Barkley, working on many different albums for bands like Animal Collective and Circulatory System, and being in bands like Japancakes. She’s associated with the Elephant 6 Collective, which is how I discovered her and this band, as I’m a pretty big fan of E6. I always thought the name “The ... read more
This is the kind of album that makes me want to flap my hands while jumping up and down and squealing. The doggy on the album cover was what first grabbed my attention (I didn't notice the cock until this morning) and since it was so short, I listened to it on a whim.
Now, twee pop is generally a genre I absolutely love but I'm pretty picky when it comes to them. They need to be just right for me to return to them more than a few times. Otherwise they don't really stick with ... read more
The new Love You mix is pretty good, although I don't know if I prefer it over the original just yet. I wasn't huge on We Gotta Groove as a song at first but it's grown on me. I think a lot of people who aren't too deep into the Beach Boys just think of Brian as the sole brain behind the greatness and think of the other members as assholes who don't get it.
And while that's debatably the case with their most important albums (Pet Sounds and Smile) I do think it underrates some of the greatest material. Dennis, Carl, and Bruce bring some of their best material and production with songs like Deirdre, It's About Time, Tears in the Morning, All I ... read more
I went into this 100% expecting the title track to completely carry this album, and while it is definitely the best song on here, the others were pretty great in their own right!
