While the band may have rounded off some its sharper edges, it certainly hasn't lost its ability to tear a hole in the sky
Construct is an impressive release when it's demonstrating a known quantity — what we already know Dark Tranquillity do very well. But it's most memorable when it departs from the expected and hints at wells of untapped musical potential.
The music on Construct is free-flowing, different, and wholly enjoyable on nearly every level. Whether or not it is a means to a larger end cannot be predicted, but here and now Construct is just the kind of album Dark Tranquillity wanted to release – needed to release – and it is the sweetest kind of melancholy that could be asked for.
All things considered, I would call Construct a partial success. Despite some glitches, they managed to be quite diverse without completely “selling out” and losing themselves (though they’re going to get some guff for the overall mellowness, that’s for shit sure).
This is without a doubt a step in the right direction following their previous release We Are the Void. The melodies are better, the production is fantastic, the songs are somewhat catchy and the brutality never left. This is the formula I like to see from Dark Tranquillity.
I've come to the conclusion that this band need a re-listen from my part becuase my hating is weak and it feels unfair rating album that I don't even enjoy without having a freshly baked opinion on them.
better than We Are The Void, but a bit forgettable and overall one of the worst DT albums. Still decent tho
