Overall R.E.D. is concise and beautifully simple, making it one of this year's smoothest R&B albums.
His honeyed tenor glides through slow jams and bangers alike … But R.E.D. won't reassure those who accuse him of drifting away from R&B to make a quick pop buck.
Bullshit notwithstanding, his silky phrasing gilds an impressively broad mix … Still, as peers like Frank Ocean and Miguel boldly reimagine commercial R&B, this often feels less like vision than parsing market research.

Fuck the critics, NeYo delivers some righteous R&B jams, including the fucking all-out mega hit "Let Me Love You". Jealous and Miss Right were the initial single leaks I liked leading up to it.
Here he was still stuck between which lane to choose. He has killer moments in both EDM ("Forever Now") and R&B ("Lazy Love"), but overall the album misses one crucial thing: focus. It feels like he's chasing approval way too much out of his way
