Quadron fill out and commercialize their sound a little, but neither clutter nor compromise it, on Avalanche.
What Avalanche may lack in immediacy, it makes up for with the gloss and professionalism that coats each of its songs like a gossamer gown.
If schlocky FM-lite pop is what you’re into, there’s lots to like on Avalanche, but it’s an album that feels hard to love. Avalanche’s obsessive squeaky cleanness keeps its audience at a distance.
The sound is full, with fat synths, string instruments, and horns. But the strings don’t sweep and swirl, they sigh and deflate; the horns thicken but do not punch.
one of my favourite albums of all time. i came across 'avalanche' as a 16-year-old who was very much devoted to alternative rock. this is the album that shifted my love for music, and made me fall in love with neo-soul. it's smooth, and timeless.
favourites: LFT (possibly my favourite song of all time), neverland, it's gonna get you, sea salt.
