As with many artists, as we approach the mid '80s we venture into 'guilty pleasure' territory - 'Caribbean Sunset' (another ridiculous portrait on the sleeve!) is Cale's Tin Machine statement five years before Bowie did it. Yes, this is John playing at being a 'regular John' frontman of a band, just without the rebranding name change like Bowie adopted.

continuing on with my john cale extravaganza, we have ‘caribbean sunset.’

i would describe this record in the same way i would describe the previews iv seen for this niche blockbuster blunder iv never seen [because you can’t find it anywhere], called S*P*Y*S “we all make mistakes.” S*P*Y*S was stylised sneakily after the movie it proceeded, M*A*S*H and it, too stars elliot gould and donald sutherland. i assume it had been scraped from everyone’s collective ... read more
