Divine Laughter remains an absolutely impressive release, delivering assorted metal delights in an unpredictable but remarkably coherent format.
If I hadn't clicked on the artist page on RYM, I never would've noticed that this is all done by one guy. Except for the vocals, those are done by Mico vocalist Pablo Miguel Méndez, utilizing amazing death growls and screams over the very atmospheric and progressive death metal with blackened tremolo riffs. Nothing sets off the feeling of running to the dinner bell faster in my metalhead brain than some extreme shit that knows how to incorporate a great melody.
I definitely wouldn’t call “Divine Laughter” a melodeath record, but I was pretty taken aback by the surprisingly frequent incorporations of melodic harmonies, given that it owes much of its DNA to more progressive and technical strains of death, sludge and black metal. Cave Sermon might have released my favourite Extreme Metal album of the decade so far wih this eclectic storm of an album. This is how you combine a plethora of different subgenres into one enthralling experience that will make you heart race. The bombast with which this album pumps a pure jolt of adrenaline into your veins is addicting. There's true passion behind this project. The fact that this is a one-man-band is what makes it even more incredible.
