I liked the two previous ones but this surprised me negatively because... I simply found this really boring. Not a 0 because there is a considerable effort in the musicianship of course, the versatility is worthy but overall not a record i particularly enjoy.

Morgan's horn on "Since I Fell For You" speaks to your soul. It almost takes on a voice of its own. It's exceptional. The arrangement isn't even anything particularly shocking or rare, but it just feels so damn good and soothing. Overall, I don't think Candy serves as good as a showcase of what Morgan can do in an ensemble, but shows how versatile he is himself.

Weak. I don’t believe the candy theme was meant to be a full LP thing (as opposed to just being the title of the highlight track), but it would make sense given how much it sours the vibe throughout. I eat about as much candy as L from Death Note and I still found this level of tacky sweetness to be pretty grim.

Even in the slower numbers this music still feels cheap, marred by really dissonant performances from each musician. It’s like everyone’s trying to do their own thing ... read more
