Hardcore’s heaviness is often expressed with stony-faced attitude, and there is plenty of that here too – but It’s Inside You also finds space for sheer, unabashed fun.
Ultimately that is one of It’s Inside You’s greatest triumphs, the way it does so much but still manages to feel so cohesive, so true to CANDY despite the presence of such esteemed guests and the fact that one may be able to make at least passing comparisons to other bands at points.
I'm not at all familiar with Candy's output prior to this, but judging by context given by other reviews, I do know that the industrial/digital hardcore experimentations are a bit new. Honestly, those are my favorite parts of the record. I do like the fusion of industrial and old school hardcore/metalcore elements, but sometimes the hardcore parts can feel a bit derivative unless it's being propped up by the insane production. I love the energy of the whole record, I love pretty ... read more
This isn't my first full album I've listened to by CANDY, but this is my first review of a project by them. From what I've heard, this album is a different direction from their powerviolence sound of their previous projects. The band has taken "It's Inside You" a sort of Underneath by Code Orange sound due to the combinations of hardcore punk and glitchy electronic sections featured across the album. I think that was a cool to hear a band attempt that style cause I ... read more
IT'S INSIDE YOU
This album is worth it for its abrasive yet simultaneously compelling approach, which gives the album a rough-edged allure that rewards revisiting. The project often wanders in search of innovative concepts and unconventional ideas, resulting in a record full of verve and determination, where no two sections ever feel alike. However, one of the main drawbacks lies in the abundance of ideas, which, while numerous and bold, often remain in a nascent form, never fully pushed ... read more
Making a record this varied in it's extremity takes guts.
Meathead beatdown riffs (Faith 91) stand next to blast beat break-neck speed (Terror Management) stand next to cloud punk a-la-turnstile (Love Like Snow) stand next to electronic breakcore experimentation (Hypercore).
The sheer breadth of this record is bound to turn some metalheads away at the door, but it's scope allows it to stand on its own as one of the most innovative hardcore records of the decade.
This is a great record and every track is so hypnotic. The production is really S tier on this thing.
