This is an extra dissonant outing by Aosoth, even reminding me of Portal most of the time. I get the different appeal compared to IV and possibly their earlier works, but it definitely didn't hit for me as much as I'd hoped. Songwriting isn't quite there.
If "dissonant black metal" exists, this is it. The Inside Scriptures is a flurry of dissonant, aggressive black metal and I'm all here for it. The comparison to DSO is inevitable with most technical black metal, though I think Aosoth draws some inspiration from them. An easy recommend to anyone who likes this brand of black metal.
