Her voice is so shrill. This was genuinely painful to listen to. I think I'd more likely enjoy just reading the lyrics.
I'm surprised by the positive reception this album had received from critics. Seems like they enjoy a more "serious" Paul, but really that just entails boring AOR.
I think the best aspect of this album is getting to hear songs that Paul had previously recorded in the studio, but didn't perhaps didn't have the opportunity to flesh out to the extent that he wanted, particularly Soily, Bluebird, Let Me Roll It, and Wild Life.
But the true highlight of this album is Paul's vocals. His scream on Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five is unbelievable.
This is the album I point to when someone says Paul McCartney is a weak or mediocre lyricist. How many songs here have lyrics that aren't about anything in particular? Most of them, really. And yet, it doesn't matter in the slightest because Paul McCartney is a masterful composer, and somehow, an even more brilliant live performer.
