Frank Ocean - Blonde
60

it’s pretty good. didn’t age perfectly. you gotta drop again man

Lorenzo Da Ponte - The Marriage of Figaro
65

Widely considered one of Mozart’s greatest works. Unfortunately, I think Mozart is LAME! #Contemporary #GetYourTonalAssBackTo1750

Magdalena Bay - Second Sleep / Star Eyes
60

the branching out into new genres and sounds is just handled by neutering the other genres for more synthpop stuff. genuinely don’t know how to feel.

Joey Valence & Brae - HYPERYOUTH
80

From its first track, HYPERYOUTH is a highlight reel of Joey Valence's delicious, vibrant and immensely inspired production capabilities, incorporating a vast sea of fragments from around the globe. The title track with its fun clave feel over the skrillex samples and electronica chords and GIVE IT TO ME's electronic additions to an intense blend of west coast beats are perfect examples of how there seem to be an endless amount of combinations JV is privy to. Unfortunately, its not ... read more

Count Basie - Kansas City 6
75

A pretty amazing recording of smooth blues recordings and jazz standards that is a pretty essential listen. It was kinda staggering that it wasn’t already on this site. A good beginner Blues record too.

Rhucle - 霧が晴れたら
65

A serene listen with some stellar moments. Visibility stands out to me. Effective at setting a relaxing mood.

La Dispute - Wildlife
85

One of the greatest cases of post-hardcore's extreme emotional significance......I don't have the words to properly describe the emotions Wildlife draws out of you. Death is cold, but Life is often colder.

La Dispute - No One Was Driving the Car
70

La Dispute are one of the best in Post Hardcore for a reason... This proves it. The anxieties and subsequent delusions of the modern age are on display, and they're as explosive as ever.

Ninajirachi - I Love My Computer
75

i would NEVER fuck my computer she’s stronger than me

The Beatles - Let It Be... Naked
75

Beatles: 12.5/81

This is a little detour I instinctively went on because I realized just how much the title track Let It Be slaps and I ended up listening to the naked version and then the whole thing...and man, yeah, this is significantly better. Fuck that Spector Guy

The Beatles - Abbey Road

Beatles: 13/81

RINGO RINGO RINGOOOOOOO RINGOOOOOOOOOO RINGOOOOOOOOOOO RINGO YOU SHRED THOSE DRUMS BABY BOYYYYYY!!! I’m so proud of you Richard…Ringo…Rango…I’m getting really emotional…I’m so proud of them…they put their tussles and squabbles aside and learned what a tritone sub is…they learned how to write a blues song that actually grips your soul…and of course Something aka “the best lennon-mccartney song” -frank ... read more

The Beatles - Let It Be
65

Beatles: 12/81

Preliminary reasoning as to why this is not the final album in the Beatles’ discography: As it is well documented that Let It Be was recorded before Abbey Road, this is not the last Beatles project in my mind. Abbey Road is.

That aside: the original Rock n Roll sound they’re striving for on Let It Be is one that has not only been heard before a million times, but they have done a million times. The Phil Spector additions create some contrast…but honestly, ... read more

The Beatles - Yellow Submarine
60

Beatles: 11/81

Why does everybody sleep on this one? It’s honestly not too bad!!! The actual songs are quite good, and the instrumentals are quite well done and expressive, incorporating parts of the Beatles’ instrumental styles into their various moods.. George is clearly sick of their shit. It’s pretty funny! I don’t have much to say about this album unfortunately. It’s an okay one with nice film scoring.

twenty one pilots - Breach
45

they certainly tried a little harder this time

twenty one pilots is a band that I have genuinely never gotten the mass enjoyment of. They seem to be this band that lives in the vague musical shadow of a bunch of different artists that came before them, never venturing too far from deep reverb-y half-pop-half-rock. Their "Contemporary Alternative Rock" label doesn't quite fit them; their music sounds like it is both trying too little and too much. They have this tendency to ... read more

twenty one pilots - City Walls

its just alright honestly

Ed Sheeran - Play
40

I feel like Ed Sheeran could be a really good musician if something happened differently in his early career. Maybe a different artistic direction, or a different connection, I don't know. He sounds like he's got the ability but not the ideas.

Maruja - Pain to Power
30

Edit Dec 27 2025

This fucking sucks it did NOT age well
they have made this exact same song for 5 years now

Jane Remover - Dreamflasher
80

I have a serious case of the Janes…

sombr - I Barely Know Her
30

worse two door cinema club + arctic monkeys vocals.
this sounds like church camp music. the drum tracks sound like (and have the reverb of) VBS tunes. Imagine he's talking about jesus and not his ex. how do you get behind this lowk

Sword II - Even If It's Just A Dream
65

pretty alright and enjoyable single. interested in this band’s output.

"@TopHatGoose I do quite like Forever Howlong but i think any copycats wouldn't be particularly enjoyable. The sound evolution was VERY appreciated to me. The combination of Baroque Pop and Chamber Rock is hard to fake: It's usually great, or it's quite bad. Forever Howlong proved to me that BC,NR are one of the more cohesive modern bands in the artistic sense, and I deeply respect them for their commitment to originality. They don't invent the conventions but they do innovate in important ways. If other people fail to make Baroque Pop next, fine! Most I can do is give my props and credit to the artists I like. Nice talking to you! AOTY usually isn't the place I go for actual music discussion, so this is quite welcome."

"@TopHatGoose Thanks for the explanation, I likely won't sit through more though, lol The constant windmill scene veneration is something that has annoyed me to no end! It essentially has two genres (crank wave and chamber-post-baroque-rock-pop / ants from up there-ish), and i'm sick of both. this year has seen so many derivative windmill type albums that the scene has near lost its charm. It's frankly ridiculous how boring it's all become (looking at Racing Mount Pleasant). I seriously hope its just a 2020s fad."

"@TopHatGoose Pain to Power was the first Maruja thing I ever heard, it's fascinating how they've been making the same okay crank wave for years It kind of pisses me off that I disliked this EP so much because now i feel like i was swindled. Takes a lot for a band to pull that off. Funny story, after hearing Pain to Power I was so enamored by it (as one is the first time hearing Proletariat-Crank-Wave) that I pre-ordered the vinyl. It never ended up coming after four months, I eventually had to call my bank to refund. I don't know if that's a normal occurrence, but I think it IS a sign."
