though not as good as that famous one with the naked lady on the cover, shinsekai is still purely midori, in their endlessly manic, extremely energetic, and famously wild form. it's a really sweet swansong for their discography. Mariko Goto is one of the best to touch the microphone
Better than Son of Spergy!

I feel they have a lot to say but their takes are muddied, requiring prior disdain to exist for the listener to understand. It's not a bad protest album, just indirect.
I feel 2000: In Search of the Endless Sky is pretty standard but very enjoyable; Fleshwater don't really do much to evolve their sound from We're Not Here to Be Loved (Save for a much slower and surprisingly emotional penultimate track Silverine), but its not like their sound is especially bland or uninteresting. Melissa's vocals are consistently a highlight in the mixes, her vocals feel like a baseline of cleanliness that the rest of the sound can expand off of. I think ... read more
I feel comparing Cameron Winter to his influences is very appropriate; he shows his capacity for such an extreme level of songwriting on quite handily. It's more a matter of if his instrumental creativity can hold up to that of his lyrics. Not only is this the case on Heavy Metal, there are some cuts that are arguably in the best of the decade.
an absolutely explosive second album. black midi refine everything great about schlagenheim into this hypnagogic, glamorous, aggressive rock-pandemonium
just about agree with what everyone else says; the first three are pretty great, but everything else is middling at best. there's some truly strange choices in here.
an extremely sensitive contemporary folk release that has a fair bit of emotional power behind its wit. it was great 40 minutes.
Dripping with intense anxiety-fueled desolation. It's unbelievable that this is a DEBUT album.
These new singles are, more than anything, honest steps forward in Magdalena Bay’s quest for their own blend of sounds. I think the earnestness in these attempts keeps me from actively disliking their current trajectory.
I can appreciate their askew sort of creativity on “Unoriginal,” but it does feel a little too lopsided to be a track with much longevity, especially compared to the cleaner structures of most of their other work.
“Black-Eyed Susan Climb” is a lot ... read more
Few releases are this consistent; even fewer so at this length. The affect is nothing short of masterwork. Leaves Turn Inside You is not only music that you've never seen before; it's music you'll never hear again.
Pretty fine, gonna be honest. Nothing unheard of, nothing extremely adventurous.
honestly, its the best post rock this year, but still falls victim to that modern post rock trope of blowing its load far too quickly
