Nourished By Time - Erotic Probiotic 2
100

Pretty much everything I could ever ask for out of DIY music is here. Beats are majestic and groovy, vocals are soulful and charismatic. Nearly every song randomly pops in my head and I sing it to myself while I'm doing boring tasks. It's quickly become a favorite!

Also the cover/title is hilarious and matches the music beautifully. I know the first one is an EP he did the year before but I love the idea of his first album being called "Erotic Probiotic 2" while ... read more

JPEGMAFIA - EXPERIMENTAL RAP
60

Peggy's first miss :(

Still better than most releases I'm gonna hear this year, but the rippity rap really isn't his bag. These songs are pretty good on their own for the most part, but the same flow over and over gets pretty exhausting. There's also really nothing production-wise I haven't heard from him already (though seriously wtf was that "All of the Lights" trap remix)

It's a shame because I loved the rollout. They'll never make me hate you ... read more

Lucy Bedroque - Fête de la Vanille
100

Modern classic right here. Digicore has never sounded this fully realized. Lucy figured out how to 100% speedrun making a masterpiece in FL Studio that couldn't exist in any other era

Baby Keem - Ca$ino
80

One of the best projects of the year! Consistently cool, smooth, sexy, weird. So much swag packed on one disc

Thundercat - Distracted
80

Same ol Thundercat, but that's not a bad thing. My most played album of 2026 so far tbh

Father John Misty - Pure Comedy
30

If The Amazing Atheist was a WWE wrestler, this would be his entrance music

Ween - Quebec
100

Smiling through the pain.

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85–92
70

Obviously a classic, but I think its more foundational than anything. Every subsequent Aphex Twin album just improved upon it. I Care Because You Do is so much weirder and bolder, RDJ is much catchier and more robust, and Druqks is his best one highlighting the whole spectrum of his sound from its harshest to his prettiest.

This one still has so many library bangers though, and holds up beautifully considering how ahead of its time it was.

Quadeca - I Didn't Mean to Haunt You
30

Really didn't care for this one. Every song feels so long and goes nowhere and the vocals kinda suck. There's really nothing on here I find even remotely interesting from a production or songwriting standpoint. I like some of Quadeca's other stuff but this one bores the hell out of me.

John Martyn - Solid Air
100

Possibly my favorite album of the 70's! Has this crazy blend of folk, jazz, and psychedelia that always gets under my skin. Every song is so unique, yet fits perfectly next to each other.

Martyn was a friend of Nick Drake's, and the title track is about his concern for him as a friend (this was released in the year between "Pink Moon" and Drake's untimely passing). "Solid Air" is one of the best metaphors for depression that I've heard in a song, as if ... read more

Death Grips - Bottomless Pit
80

Damn, 10 years old. This is the first vinyl I ever bought (alongside “Shades of Blue” by Madlib) at an FYE around the time it came out.

Definitely not my favorite of theirs, but has a lot of what they do best. No other band in history could ever make “Three Bedrooms”, “Spikes” or “Houdini.” “Ring a Bell” also has such a killer guitar riff and is one of my favorite songs of theirs.

Despite opening with two of their most unhinged ... read more

Johnny Blue Skies - Mutiny After Midnight
80

Physical-only, genre changing new moniker from one of the only country artists that people who don't listen to country like? Sign me up!

I know this isn't his first release under this name, but its the first one I caught wind of as someone who works at a record store and couldn't escape how much it was selling. We played the CD and it's nonstop, horny funky bangers that consistently got a big smile out of me. Might have to fuck around and buy the vinyl

slayr - Half Blood (BloodLuxe)
90

The hype is real, this is state of the art rage rap. Beautifully incorporates so many instruments, melodies and ideas while keeping it bangin from front to back. Can't stop replaying this one

Deftones - Around the Fur
50

I've genuinely heard this in full like 5 or 6 times and still could not recall or even name you a single song from it if you put a gun to my head

FREEMAN - FREEMAN
70

Been in heavy rotation over the last week since I saw it on the RSD list. I'm a big Ween fan but hadn't heard this until recently and it's really solid! Definitely closer to Ween's calmer, later years but with great songwriting and performances

Various Artists - Jazz Dispensary: Magia Brasileira
80

This is my first Jazz Dispensary RSD buy and it's great! Incredibly well sequenced and tropical bangers that make me feel like walking through a festival in Brazil. Cal Tjader's been a favorite of mine for a while and I'll definitely be checking out the other artists on here soon.

Devon Hendryx - JOECHILLWORLD [Reissue]
100

Wildly unfiltered and out of pocket rap over proto-vaporwave beats. This is MY Illmatic

Jim Legxacy - black british music (2025)
90

Easily my favorite new artist discovery of last year. So many different styles done exceptionally well in such a short amount of time. Everything from jerk rap, pop punk, and dancehall is covered so seamlessly. I swear Drake has been trying to make "Sun" and "3x" for years at this point.

underscores - U
40

Y'all are gonna hate me but this was such a slog to get through. Undercores's sing-songy genre fusions on "Wallsocket" made her such a standout artist in the scene, but on this one she's fully embraced EDM/pop. Which is totally fine (and makes sense as an artistic progression) but the hooks are really lacking, the drops are underwhelming and none of the songs really stand out from each other. Easily my least favorite of hers so far.

Gorillaz - The Mountain
NR

Around the time this came out, my roommate got the "Big Arch" burger from McDonald's and I took a bite and thought "yep, that's McDonald's alright."

I got to the second song after the intro and thought "yep, that's Gorillaz alright."

I think this band just really isn't for me anymore. It's not even bad I'm just really tired of it.
