Distracted is more than just another installment in his legacy as an artist; it's a pillar of alliance and love, new and old. If he went through every possible artist with a fine-toothed comb when choosing his collaborators for this album, it was worth it. Each artist he chose has a distinct way of bouncing off all of his strengths, without hiding underneath him.

What makes Distracted resonate the most is that it doesn’t aim to be perfect, it aims to be real. That’s where its strength lies. Thundercat invites listeners into a space where confusion, beauty, and pain coexist, reminding us that even in a fractured world, there is still room to feel, create, and live fully.

AllMusic
He's still finding joy inside the pain, supplying the high notes with that ethereal contratenor and the low end with those sinuous basslines.

Uncut
Stephen Bruner returns after six years with more humour, psych-funk and guests.

Mojo
With super-producer Greg Kurstin couching the lyrical doubts in sunshine grooves, Thundercat has finally made the all-out pop album he’s been hinting at. It fits like a glove.

The Needle Drop
The best Thundercat album since his debut.
78
Pitchfork
Tapping celebrity guests like A$AP Rocky and Tame Impala for an album of silky cosmic funk, Thundercat channels the id of the geeky, emotionally maladjusted loner.

Spectrum Culture

Distracted works so well because it’s loaded with the contradictions of his personality (or perhaps his pop persona), both sonically and lyrically.

musicOMH
The American musician serves up audio comfort food with some stylistic progression and a generous helping of technical skill.

PopMatters
By not fully letting his guard down, the genre-bending bass virtuoso Thundercat fails to harmonize with the profound beauty of his songs.

Rolling Stone

On his new album, Distraction, the bassist and R&B visionary stares down loss while making the struggle as beautiful, funny, spacey, and vibe-y as he can.

Spill Magazine
Thundercat continues to demonstrate himself as one of music’s most impressively pioneering and experimental forces necessary for keeping things interesting but perhaps Distracted doesn’t quite meet the hype of a six-year gap.

Stephen Bruner’s first album in six years contains glimmers of his in-the-pocket bass skills, but it too often cedes ground to mid-tempo monotony.

THUNDERCAT I'M RUNNING OUT OF HONEY TO POUR ON YOU GOAT

Distracted by Thundercat is an amazing album, and it keeps on adding to an already great year for music. While it's not my AOTY right now, it's one of the best of the year and a definite highlight. The production throughout was amazing with its soothing and warm feeling. His vocals were also really good throughout the entire album. I loved the playfulness on the album especially on the track, ‘Great Americans’. ... read more

OKAY REAL REVIEW LOL. MY FAV ELECTRIC KITTY IN MUSIC RETURNS!!!

Thundercat is a name that has been making this underrated artists (especially from hip hop and soul) industry get more and more highlighted over time. Now he comes back for his fifth studio album. That means another time for him to show what happens when you become a goat of song contributions ... read more

Opens incredibly strong with a three track run of bangers from Tame Impala, Mac Miller, and Lil Yachty that went straight into the playlist. But after that early peak the rest of the tracklist just becomes mid-tempo monotony and plays out like slightly better than average elevator music.

The album is fairly comfortable to listen with many amazing, upbeat tracks with production being truly the strongest point. There are some weaker points where Thundercat provides some uncomfortable lyrics (especially last 2 songs, "Great Americans" is only redeemable because of the amazing Flying Lotus production). By far my favourite attribute of this album is the feature list. Bro assembled the Avengers of psychedelic music for this one and they all delivered (of course I gotta ... read more
