Every song feels like a grand finale.
So this is my second favorite album of all time. It's funny because I replay this album much more than The Forever Story, but TFS will always have a special place in my heart for reasons even I don't really understand. This album though, I understand. I was originally planning on re-reviewing Ants From Up There as my 100th review, but screw it. If I had to describe this album in one word, I wouldn't be able to give you one that fully ... read more
I mean, this one's beloved for a reason.
"But he made graduation" is such a common and annoying thing to see in online discourse surrounding Kanye recently, but the thing that pisses me off the most about that statement is that Graduation isn't even his best album. However, it's still amazing. Graduation is the perfect summer album; it has a special uplifting feeling that isn't present in many other rap albums. Songs like Good Morning, I Wonder, and Flashing ... read more
This album is carried so hard by its influence.
808s & Heartbreak is Kanye West's most influential album ever, and arguably one of, if not THE most influential albums of the 21st century and all time. The heavy autotune, melancholy vibe, and ... read more
What the fuck.
On first listen I was like "ok this album sounds really weird." On a close second listen I was like "Oh my god what the fuck." I'm swearing a lot which is not something I usually do in reviews but this album is crazy messed up. The stories on songs like Sugar/Tzu, Eat Mem Eat, Dangerous Liasons, and The Defence sound like the fantasies of an incel on 4chan who watched gore videos in high school. That would be, if the songs didn't also come with ... read more
Big Thief are a band I enjoy. Obviously the standout for them is Adrianne Lenker, who is a phenomenal songwriter and vocalist with a really unique voice. While I had had their first album Masterpiece recommended to me previously, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You was the first Big Thief album I actually really engaged with. I actually encountered this particular album for the first time while checking out the 2022 album chart on RYM, and being outraged when I saw anything above The ... read more
I've never rated a single before but I need to articulate how amazing this song is! It's so catchy, and the concept is really good. I love the synthpop angle. Chappell is so based don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Happy pride month fellas.
