米津玄師 [Kenshi Yonezu] - OFFICIAL ORANGE
90

An iconic Vocaloid album for good reason. Hachi's production is masterclass and this is an extremely experimental album that imo works out fantabulously. Songs like Matryoshka, Rinne and Ward room 305 manage to combine hardcore and creepy in such a cool way, donut hole and Panda hero are just overall iconic. So on. It's a fantastic J-poprock album, and I love GUMI's tuning here. A few songs are a bit forgettable or skippable but the album's high points make up for it

wowaka - アンハッピーリフレイン [Unhappy Refrain]
100

What do I even need to say? This album defined an entire genre. Few producers have managed to even touch the J-rock perfection that Wowaka debuted with. It's pretty much a flawless album. Every track here is iconic. Alot of them built our childhoods.

RIP Wowaka

Black Sabbath - Paranoid
93

Talk about unaging, Ozzy's vocals in this album are as incredible now as they were 55 years ago. Songs like Paranoid and Hand of Doom made my childhood drives so much more fun, the lyrics are really something else for its time and I mean that positively. The solos on this album are iconic, the instrumentals are just an overall fantastic blend of hardcore and smooth, it's just a fantastic album.

RIP Ozzy, may he raze heaven.

Jamie Paige - Constant Companions (Deluxe Edition)
95

THE transgender album. Electropop isn't even my thing but Jamie is converting me with this masterpiece of an album. There's a few mildly forgettable songs especially towards the beginning of the album but even those are fun to listen to when they get on. The lyrics are catchy and playful as hell while being clear and relatable, every vsynth is tuned to perfection, but especially Teto who manages to sound almost human here, the production value is literally insane, the beats are ... read more

きくお [Kikuo] - きくおミク6 [Kikuo Miku 6]
93

Tragically, Kikuo at his worst is also Kikuo at his best.

Representing Pain has always been what he's been the best at, and damn you can feel it in this one. It may not have the same hits as Kikuo 3 but it's easily his best album in literature every other way possible. The lyrics are harrowing, the vibes are as uncanny and carabet as can be, it's simply just an unforgettable album.

syudou - 露骨 [Rokotsu]
87

Some of Syudou's best. Not a single miss and his vocals are extremely intense here. The album as a whole is very cohesive too which is almost a rarity in the J-pop sphere. As usual his production is loud and top notch, and the it's overall just a mesmerizing experience. Bakushou is probably my favourite track here

Mori Calliope - JIGOKU 6
83

Personally my favourite Mori Record yet even if I get that phantomime is more impressive. Besides the one piece song each one is extremely catchy and memorable to me. The beats go hard, the song scratches my ears well, it's experimental but incredibly well produced, I love the Reol feature and the track itself is a fantastic opener. It's just an overall great ep, with 6 feet under being one of her most ambitious yet fantastic songs so far.

Various Artists - CHIMERA
84

It's not the most cohesive nor the most unique album in the world, but it makes up for it by being an extremely ambitious and well put together project. Seeing some of these legendary producers work together is super fun and has produced great results like Complicity and Roleless Weapon.

Of course, the main punch of this album is the dance robot dance remix. Which is fucking peak. Seeing this many producers team up to remix bits of their song in their own styles is so damn cool.

Good Kid - Good Kid 3
81

As much as I hate to say it, the other reviews are right in that alot of the songs in this record are very samey and not very different from GK1 and 2.

That being said. Good Kid's sound IS very good so even with the lack of variety it ends up sounding really good! It's solid indie pop rock and it's consistent. What more do you want. And personally I think it's the best Good kid album yet, mostly entirely because Madeline and Mimi's delivery service are the band's ... read more

OutKast - Stankonia
92

André 3K and Big Boi shook the entire rap sphere with this release, and I think it's only aged better and better since then. It's loud, it's proud. It's experimental in the best ways. It's funky, it's deep when it needs to be, silly in the best ways when it doesn't. And it's something that I need more of stat.

TOPHAMHAT-KYO - Watery Autumoon
82

An extremely vibey edm/hip-hop album that I can't recommend enough for those trying to get into THHK's music. An overall extremely chill listen even if it's got a few misses like ghosty and candy. ESKRRRP is one of his best songs and has a godlike chorus, while Princess♂️ is iconic for good reason, I mean, it pretty much directly created one piece film red lol. The middle portion of the album is a bit forgettable but it's certainly not horrible by any means.

DEMONDICE - SHUT UP, GET HAPPY
90

No shit Karen's best record by a long shot lol, 2 years in apple bitches gives a lot of time to get better at music no surprises here. The improvement in production is astronomical, and her verses here are super clean. Since this is just a vent EP there isn't really any storytelling here, which alkatraz is definitely still the best at, but it doesn't need storytelling. It's blunt and to the point and I like that. It gets its point across as well as the bat pictures in the ... read more

キタニタツヤ [Kitani Tatsuya] - DEMAGOG
89

An album that manages to do a lot in very little. And easily Tatsuya Kitani's most impressive album to date. It's trippy, it's got extremely good production, his vocals are especially addictive in this record, and it manages to be extremely cohesive in its storytelling and themes.

80

Probably my favourite garage rock album, it's vibey, it's fun, it's something you can listen to over and over again without getting too tired. It's great. I think it's a tad overrated. It certainly isn't a masterpiece in theming or anything. But it doesn't need to be. A perfectly enjoyable record. Alone Together is easily one of the best garage rock tracks I've listened to, and even Soma which I'd consider the weakest track in the album isn't ... read more

Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
92

A legendary boom bap album that I can't believe I didn't listen to in its entirety sooner. Miss Lauryn Hill's songwriting is some of the most intelligent stuff ever and her smooth as butter vocals combine with it to make a record that makes your very soul start grooving while also processing everything you're hearing.

Madvillain - Madvillainy
96

An essential album for any hip-hop fan, 22 songs sounds like a lot but they flow together so cleanly that once you start listening you'll hardly notice until the album is about to end. Madlib's beats are about as vibey as ever here, and the sampling in this record is some of the best I've ever seen. DOOM's talent when it comes to lyricism and his flows cannot be understated. And it'll be a cold day in hell before it's ever surpassed if you ask me.

Ado - 狂言 [Kyōgen]
84

Ado's hitmaking abilities shine through like a diamond here in what is easily her best album, featuring some of the best damn producers in the market. I consider her to be among the best vocalists ever, let alone this generation, and her songs here really show her talent off in full display. I also love how unsubtle this album is with its themes, some may not like it, but I think it's necessary with what it's trying to portray and the environment it's trying to portray this ... read more

FAKE TYPE. - FAKE BOOK
86

I see the brad taste cult hasn't review bombed this one to oblivion yet!

It may not hit the same peaks as fake type's other albums but I think it more than makes up for it through sheer consistency. Monster's zoo is the only song I'd say is a miss here, a song or two might be slightly forgettable but otherwise they're all good to fantastic.

I think this song does a fantastic job at portraying the calmer side of Fake type's music and lets Dyes-san's skills on ... read more

Daisuke Ishiwatari - Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- Original Sound Track
97

Quite possibly the best video game ost of all time. Daisuke and his team have perfected almost every genre of rock and even some metal here and there. It's peak. The orchestral rock tracks like freesia and all I can do are all incredible, and Coming Home in particular is the peak of Arcsys' music and I doubt it will ever be topped. (Queen of Rose and Requiem come close though). Songs like Storyteller are smooth as hell, Jack-A-Dandy is a jazz rock masterpiece, I could go on and on.

25時、ナイトコードで。 [25-ji, Nightcord De.] - 25時、ナイトコードで。SEKAI ALBUM Vol.3 [Nightcord at 25:00 SEKAI ALBUM vol.3]

I typically don't like rating cover albums, but how can I not have my favourite music group on my aoty page lol. Anyways. Their Heat abnormal and Bad Apple covers are incredible. And there's plenty more good stuff here
