DJ Khaled - GOD DID
30

Repetitive, boring, the features aren't great. This is far from Khaled's worst, but also far from Khaled's best (which isn't a high bar either way. This was so uninteresting, I don't know why I listened to this.

Favorites: GOD DID, BEAUTIFUL, BILLS PAID, JUICE WRLD DID, GRATEFUL

Least Favorite: STAYING ALIVE, LET'S PRAY

JID - The Forever Story
88

To J.I.D, The Forever Story must have been his biggest challenge as an artist yet. Expectations were incredibly high, and to many people (including me), this album would have to be the one that would either solidify him as one of the best artists in the genre, or showcase how he was just a one-trick-pony with potential that wouldn't be realized, because, although DiCaprio 2 had great material on it, it still unfortunately felt a bit uninteresting after a while. Thankfully, The Forever Story is ... read more

Björk - Post
89

I had attempted listening to Björk a couple of times before, but to be honest, her music is not something that is immediately all that easy to process. Of course, whether it was this album or Vespertine (the only ones that I had attempted to listen to yet), I always had much admiration for Björk's production and her talent in both performance and songwriting, but there was not that much that I could have attached myself onto and I personally never thought that it was all that ... read more

Bob Dylan - Another Side of Bob Dylan
85

You know, Another Side of Bob Dylan is one of the most obvious transition-albums I've ever heard in my life. Like, it's so clear that this is at a crucial point in Dylan's career where he both changed his sound and writing style, and because of that, the result we get is a rather mixed bag. It's still 60s-Dylan, it's still far above most albums of the time period, but for him, it's probably the weakest of that decade (aside from his debut). Another Side of Bob Dylan has some amazing tunes, but ... read more

Ólafur Arnalds & Alice Sara Ott - The Chopin Project
80

I just.. don't really know what to say about this one?

It's kind of like a lot of Ólafur Arnalds' projects: pretty, well orchestrated, sweet, but nothing that really reaches any deeper than that. I love Chopin and his collaboration with Alice Sara Ott brings an interesting new light to Chopin's compositions, but sadly, I can't really say it did anything more than that for me. Good.

Teenage Jesus & The Jerks - Live 1977-1979
90

"Mommy please, can I bleed just once?"

Teenage Jesus and The Jerks were a group with an incredibly overseeable and short discography without ever having released a full-length studio album, which is honestly something very disappointing to see, considering that the bands contribution to Brian Eno's legendary No New York compilation was easily the biggest standout to me, and the potential presented on a live-album/compilation record like this one is honestly so promising that it ... read more

Various Artists - No New York
83

The Contortions bring the unhinged noisiness,
Teenage Jesus and The Jerks bring the bleak nihilism,
Mars bring the despicably grimy weirdness,
...and DNA bring a sludgy catchiness to their no-wave.

Brian Eno's No New York compilation, the centerpiece to the entire movement and genre, is maybe one of the most important compilation records of all time in the American underground. He presents to you a collection of tracks from bands that went down even darker paths than the heaviest or noisiest ... read more

The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
85

Some of their best songs like She's Leaving Home, When I'm Sixty Four and obviously the amazingly grand A Day In the Life are on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, yet I don't really see what makes this album all that interesting. I don't think this is their worst or anything, I actually think a lot of the material on here is pretty good, but I can't really see the bigger picture with this one. The white album was grand, eclectic and filled with great content, Revolver is really intriguing ... read more

The Beatles - The Beatles
92

And just like that, I'm eating my own words.
When I recently made my review for Abbey Road, when discussing my lack of absolute adoration for any album I've heard of the Beatles so far and talking about when I will finally fall in love with an entire project of theirs, I said "I don't think I ever will". Just one album later, and that is not the case anymore. The reason why I didn't immensely enjoy any full-length LPs of the band that I've heard before (Revolver & Abbey Road) was ... read more

The Beatles - Abbey Road
82

The Beatles' discography is something that is really interesting, considering their different periods are vastly different and it seems like everybody has their own favorite among their handful of classics they've put out over the span of the band's career, but I've never been captivated to listen to their discography, because every time I try to listen to a concise body of work of theirs, I seem to get underwhelmed by the oh-so high expectations that one has when going into a project like ... read more

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - "Luciferian Towers"
89

Luciferian Towers is without a doubt Godspeed You! Black Emperor's most underrated project. I totally get why so many people wouldn't really be gravitating towards it, as it is easily the least ambitious album they've released up to this point, and doesn't really feature any extremely heavy or loud movements, but rather slow, meditative and patient pieces, while also being incredibly ambiguous when it comes to its themes. It's obviously still Godspeed, there is a lot of edge, noise and ... read more

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
100

(A lot of people do perfect score purges, where they downrate albums they gave a 100/100 to, but what I'm doing right now is the reverse of that, imma be more charitable and give albums 100/100 that I originally didn't believe to be perfect.)

Yes, like so many people nowadays, when I first heard Pet Sounds, I thought it was a tiny bit overrated and a little cheesy, but boy, after so many listens, I finally get why people think this is one of the greatest albums ever. It's literally the ... read more

Surfer Rosa is in no sense of the word perfect; it's a debut in which the Pixies present a lot of their weaknesses. Showing the your negative qualities doesn't mean that you can't present the opposite though, and with this LP, they showcase all of their strengths in the best way possible. It isn't a flawless album, but it is kind of a perfect debut. I mean, I guess one could argue having a masterpiece as your debut is better, but what the Pixies did on here is something that tells you to listen ... read more

The Doors - Morrison Hotel
94

Well, wow. Morrison Hotel is not The Doors' most defining record for their sound, nor is it their most ambitious or conceptual undertaking, however, I must say that this was not just the best first-listening experience that I've ever had with the band, but that it's also their most consistently great project (together with Strange Days). They aren't really trying to deliver a grand statement with this project, but instead have a very successful attempt at reviving and reinventing themselves. ... read more

The Doors - The Soft Parade
85

To be fair, every Doors album I've listened to before took a few listens for me to truly enjoy, and as this review is written right after my first initial listen, take everything with a grain of salt, but I get why this is their lowest rated album from when Morrison was still alive. It's not bad, it's just such a mess. Their debut was nocturnal, dark and beautifully raw, Strange Days was, well... strange and fantastically eerie, and while Waiting for the Sun also was a bit all-over-the-place ... read more

Brian Eno - Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks
91

I mean, wow, what a gorgeous listen this was. Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks being this amazing of an album was something I never expected, as I do admire a lot of Eno's production for other musicians, yet his own Ambient work had never really impressed me all that much up to this point. My first venture into his Ambient work was Ambient 1: Music For Airports, an album that is incredibly influential and ahead of its time, yet a little too simple and repetitive for my tastes in the genre, ... read more

Arthur Rubinstein - Chopin: The Nocturnes
88

I really have no idea how to tackle reviewing Classical Music, but what I can say, is that I was enchanted by this collection of piano pieces. Whether it be the original compositions by Chopin or Rubinstein's playing (it's probably a combination of both), the material on this LP has a really melancholic feeling to it and has some of the most evocative piano pieces I've heard in quite a while. I should definitely listen to more Chopin.

Tangerine Dream - Phaedra
84

I haven't heard much of Tangerine Dream's nor Klaus Schulze's discography, however, from what I've heard so far, I think it's pretty clear that Phaedra is one of the most subdued and ethereal pieces or work in any of them, as a lot of the other projects within these discographies are much more eclectic in sound and scale, but that doesn't mean that Phaedra is weak or lesser; it's easily one of the most artistically distinct and sonically pleasing one's I've heard thus far, and that's obviously ... read more

Klaus Schulze - Mirage
80

My experience with Klaus Schulze's music has been limited, as I only ever checked out a few tracks off of his musical project called Tangerine Dream, but I was excited nonetheless because the Krautrock-associated Berlin School movement is something that I haven't really dipped my toes into until now, but German Electronic Music from the 70s hasn't disappointed me ever (one of the best experiences with Electronic Music that I recently had being Cluster's second album). Well Schulze's Mirage is ... read more

Earth - Earth 2: Special Low Frequency Version
89

I've never been diagnosed with ADHD or anything, but sometimes, I am just really impatient. It depends on the situation though. Sometimes I can sit down to watch a 4 hour long movie and not feel tired at at, and sometimes a 5-minute song already makes me want to move on because I'm that impatient.

An album like Earth 2 is truly one that makes me question if I have ADHD too, because I love it, and that's what I don't really get. I shouldn't love this as an impatient ADHD listener, as there is ... read more
