"Getting Killed" is Geese's 4th album, and it is absolutely astounding how they continue to improve. Coming two years after the band's critically and audience acclaimed 2023 project "3D Country" and only one year after Cameron Winter's "Heavy Metal" (one of my personal favorite albums of 2024), expectations were sky high going into this album. On top of that, the three incredible singles in the album's rollout blew me away and added to my hype. ... read more
Wasn’t all bad, just sounds like other things they have released. The Julia Wolfe feature was just thrown in here and doesnt connect to the rest of the song.
Super fun pair of tracks. Both ex and sellout take on dance-inspired beats that are punchy and really make you feel the music. The appearances from each of the members are also pretty good and I am starting to get a hang of each of their voices and sounds. Just another set of solid tracks in the lead up to a (hopefully) great project.
I could feel myself ascending during the opening of this 🥹.
Illusion Hills is a collective I had never heard of but decided to check out after hearing a clip of this song, and it is incredible. Although I am not familiar with the members, I was pleasantly surprised to hear so many of them over such a relatively short time. Even if they all each don’t bring a ton to the song, their presence alone makes it a much more varied and interesting listen. The production is pretty cool, almost ... read more
Millkzy is an artist I have been aware of for some time now, however have never really given the chance due to not really understanding what he does well. From my listening experience, it is not that he raps over incredible beats or has super unique delivery, it is that he has great bars. The way he delivers his poetry, backed by pianos, make it feel like he is speaking directly to you. It took me a second to understand, but its not that he is flashy its that he is real that makes him special. ... read more
I don't know how to feel about the vocal performance, but this is still great.
With Maroon being one of my favorite songs of the year, and with Dominic Fike having impressive features on Kevin Abstract's project, "Blush", I was really excited to see where he would take his sound next. "Rocket" sees Fike take his sound all over the place. Songs like "Sandman" and "All Hands On Deck" tap into his rap delivery, similar to his old work. On the other hand, songs like "Quite the Opposite" and "Epilogue" take on ... read more
While I enjoy the new songs like SOS and High Note, I feel like the remixes weren't too amazing. The problem is especially clear on Palace where Troy Tyler, although an incredible singer, does too much and almost breaks the atmosphere the song creates.
If Bon Iver had a kid with Black Country, New Road, you would get this.
2025 IS THE YEAR FOR THE DUOS 🔥🔥
Joey Valence & Brae are a duo that I am still incredibly unfamiliar with, but after listening to this project, it might be time to change that. HYPERYOUTH is a dance hip-hop album that is packed with personality and versatility. From a production standpoint, no song sounds alike while being incredibly fun. The booming 808s and dance-like drum lines that never run out of energy. Its loud and in your face, forcing you to accept it and just let it move ... read more
God Does Like Ugly is NOT The Forever Story, but it is an incredible album worthy of its praise.
The Forever Story is one of the best hip-hop albums of the 2020s and possibly of all time. Now, JID drops his next album “God Does Like Ugly” which has the gargantuan task of following up its legendary predecessor. Its fair to say it does a solid job at doing that.
With JID’s continuously evolving and improving flow and rapping ability, he drops incredible performances all across ... read more
From the punchy drums to the jumping synths and hi-hats, the production on this feels insane and somehow luxurious (sometimes). Combined with the production 2hollis basically turns his voice into part of the production with little shouts or verses that add to the already amazing tracks. Maybe it could use with a little more refining and maybe a little longer and we could be looking at a killer album.
Her voice is absolutely gorgeous, but it feels boring for some reason. Whether its that all the songs sound too similar or that the instrumentals (although smooth and chill) feel flat and uninteresting. The peaks on this album come when she isn’t just singing over jazzy instruments but when something a little extra is added in too. Like on California and Me, and the Philharmonic Orchestra adds so much. Its so close to being great though.
Listening to this after Quadeca is the worst form of whiplash.
The beat is boring the verses are boring, and Drake’s accent hurts to hear.
