One of my absolute favorite pop records. It strikes a perfect balance between immense global fame and her distant roots. Within Rihanna’s discography, this work feels like a synthesis of everything she’s explored, repackaged into a progressive R&B sound. An incredibly significant and deeply personal album
Both the most unique and the most chaotic pop record in the industry. As a piece of art, it's a stellar exhibit with a precisely curated palette of aggressive electronic beats. However, the album evokes almost no emotional resonance. While this may have been intentional, that very detachment is what makes it difficult to listen to on a daily basis
An incredibly danceable record that masterfully brought the disco sound back to the mainstream. While you shouldn't look for deep lyricism here, the album is a powerhouse of energy. Though it's unclear how well it will age, the project clearly delivered a string of iconic hits that defined the lockdown era
