Electropop is dominating this year!!!
Beyond a few singles here and there and the catchiness of (the controversial) slut pop, I wasn’t paying too much attention to Petras and more so just appreciated her as a cultural icon. But she really delivered a solid album that sounds liberated and just a lot more fun. It’s a bit rough around the edges which is kind of new for her, but it really works for her. Overall the album production wise is really cohesive. It just sounds like ... read more
Electronic dance ambient is how I would describe this. Go on a walk, take a bike ride and listen to this album. It gets a bit abrasive at times with the sounds but that’s A.G. Cook for ya. As a whole, this score is really cohesive and flows really well. While the middle part of the score gets a bit more existential and low energy, it succeeds in being emotional. Residue and Dread as the tail ends makes sense, and I love the drama of the latter and the use of the “I love it” ... read more
Im just living for the grittiness and grunginess of this album. It’s like rough around the edges but still pop. Depending on my mood, it’s pretty much no skips. Vocals are stunning, choruses are awesome, concept is amazing. The influences are strong but still original and interesting. From the singles I knew this was gonna be good, and yet she somehow still surprised me. she really didn’t disappoint. It’s been a sec where I’ve felt so moved by an unpolished ... read more
A really solid debut and pop album. While at times it can be too on the nose, referentially, Eli’s voice shines through. The range is crazy. I can’t wait to see what else she releases in the future
First listen I was like okay….now 5th listen I’m like wowwww okayyyyy. my first favorite album of this year. Baroque slightly orchestral pop but still with some XCXism that we know and love. Her vocals are really awesome on some tracks, especially on always everywhere, wall of sound, altars, and chains of love. Chains of love as a single I felt meh about but once I heard it with the rest of the album it made sense and started growing on me. I especially love the production on My ... read more
I relistened to this album yesterday and wow. It is a really solid debut album. Which is why reading all the reviews surprised me….I maybe have the positive bias of nostalgia as well as retrospect when comparing this album to the rest of her catalog, but I think this album has a lot of personality.
The first half of the album is definitely the stronger side of the album. Delivering more pop rock hits and more varied production, it’s easy to see why the main singles come from this ... read more
Very chill and vibey for a Sunday afternoon car ride
I stumbled upon this album after someone posted “workin on it” to the music league I am in. Sometimes you just need an album that calms you down and this felt like it.
I sometimes tend to seek music that is more exciting, maximalist, more “ADHD-y”, so listening to something like this is refreshing.
Stand outs for me are “Moody, “Feelings”, “WiFi Beach”, “Feelings”, ... read more
EUSEXUA AfterTHOUGHT
No shade in the title lol I just thought it was funny.
I for the most part enjoyed this album. While this definitely is not my favorite of hers, twigs always knows how to hold My attention and captivate her audience, and this album is no exception.
I think for starters, the overall energy of the album is very cohesive. You’ve just spent the entire night in EUSEXUA, and this is what the comedown sounds like. It’s slightly discordant (cheap motel, stereo boy, ... read more
I didn’t really get into this album until the end of the summer. Upon initial release, I didn’t pay too much attention after listening a couple of time. But for some reason the end of summer melancholy into cozy recluse fall and winter made more sense for this album.
Overall, some beautiful minimal sounds working together to create a beautiful soundscape. From soft trumpets, to dotting sounds, beautiful percussive arrangements, and subtle house beats, oklou builds a cohesive and ... read more
This was the first time I was intrigued by a Madison Beer album. It’s definitely not a perfect album, but I think with each album she is closer to discovering her artistic identity.
I think the major flaw of this album is the songwriting. Especially for an album with too many ballads. When the writing is good, it’s fine. And when it’s not good…well yea. I think ‘nothing at all’ as a closer could have been a bigger punch with better writing. Bittersweet is ... read more
