Honestly I don’t think the Taylor Swift that made “RED” could possibly have made this…
Like what are we doing? The Fate of Ophelia is fine, father figure is fine, Elizabeth Taylor is fine, Ruin the friendship is fine, but none great! Yet every other track is terrible.
She was so close to having another “red” on her hands, but it is just worse in lyrics, production and overall consistency in the songs. Lots of songs are boring.
Forgettable, singles kinda boring. Standout track is “you’re on your own kid”
She really revived her artistic and commercial career with this. Honestly great album.
Regression in her discography. Lots of mediocre songs, and also some jems like “getaway car” and “dress” overall disappointing.
Her Magnum opus. Literally bulletproof if you ignore “stay stay stay” honestly wish she would try to song write like this again. This combines her pop abilities, songwriting and refinement. Honestly great however keeping stay stay stay might be the worst decision of her career ( other than releasing “the life of a showgirl”)
Much stronger than her previous two albums. Proved her real capability of songwriting. Refinement seems to be the issue.
Not much artistic growth from debut but songs like “love story” and “you belong with me” will be classics forever.
Lowkey a good debut, showcased her potential for songwriting. Fav track: picture to burn
GREATEST MAINSTREAM DEBUT OF THE 21ST CENTURY ( other than gaga ). Every single hits and she proved that even in a drought of new artists, light can peak through the cracks. Though tracks like “enough for you” and “1 step forward, 3 steps back” can be forgettable, they do showcase the potential of songwriting that she had.
P.S deja vu is her greatest song and it will never be topped
10X better than “SOUR” and also full of great tracks such as these highlights: - “all american bitch”, “vampire”, “ballad of a homeschooled girl”, “the grudge”, “pretty isn’t pretty”, “teenage dream”.
Honestly a breath of fresh air in the pop world. Authentic, original and creative. Only thing I wish is that she would push herself past the ballads like “logical”.
It’s not quite as good as some of her other records, but let’s not discredit the amount of great songs here:
1. 34 + 35
2. Just Like Magic
3. Six Thirty
4. My Hair
5. Obvious
6. Positions
7. POV
8. Safety Net
More than Half of the songs on the tracklist are fantastic, so I can move past the songs like “west side” and “shut up”
Solid return after the pop bibles that “sweetener” and “thank u next”
Maybe if “piano”, “better left unsaid” and “popular song” weren’t part of this record, it would be considered one of the best of her discography. All the other tracks bang and I think this album easily clears my everything .
Although the album tracks are significantly worse than those of “yours truly”, these singles man, other than “1989”, “Teenage dream” and “The fame”, this has one of the best single runs of all time.
Fav single: Break Free
Fav Album track: Be my baby
Special Mention: Only 1 (deluxe track)
Her strongest “Pop” album. Although some tracks like “sometimes” and “leave me lonely” have some inconsistencies in quality, every single track has a sticky melody and memorable production. Pop Bible
Although many didn’t get this album, I truly did. Although the vocals weren’t showcased as much as her previous works, her ability to piece an album together is excellent.
Album made in 2 weeks and still one of her strongest.
Fav track: Ghostin
