Being such a varied blend of the thoughts and ideas swirling around Kanye's mind, both in writing and sound, it's surprising that the extensive track list ends up being a rather consistently enjoyable listen all throughout, with minor lulls here and there, although Kanye never reaches his highest highs on this record.
Rough around the edges in all the right places, the abrasive and aggressive beats and instrumentation accompanied by Kanye's charmingly egotistical lyrics and relentless flows make for a rightly influential project that rarely misses the mark.
If the first 3 of the deluxe tracks were on the regular album in place of some of the lower quality songs it could have been a better album. "The Joy" is a bit of a snoozer.
The duo's sheer confidence carries them over amazing beats, even when it sometimes leads them to arrogance and ignorance in regards to the quality of the songwriting or flow of each track. Neither artist is really at their best here, but this is still a fun listen.
"Powerful" describes pretty much everything about this album. The complex arrangements, big choirs, pounding drums, and passionate and proud lyricism and delivery by Kanye and the cast of excellent features joining him really showcases the budget of this project. It really feels like Kanye has all that power.
Emotions are at their highest here, with Kanye pouring his heart out on almost every track. In wake of this however the lyricism and production have taken a hit, and most of the songs tend to drone on just a bit. Despite this, it is a very influential and important record.
Coming in with a more poppy sound than Kanye's previous albums, it offers a simple and concise collection of songs that are fun and catchy even at their lowest, all without giving up a shred of the integrity and soul that fans love him for.
An amazing sophomore project and perfect follow-up to 'The College Dropout' with a softer, more soothing sound present throughout. All of Kanye's previously proven strengths shine just about as bright here, further demonstrating his destiny towards greatness.
Kanye comes straight out of the gate with his absolute best. His humor and wit injected into his expert lyricism and smooth flows over dope beats with beautifully chosen samples makes this a classic.
Epic anthems and emotional ballads with just about perfect vocals serve to further cement Dio as one of the greatest to ever do it with one of the most iconic heavy metal albums of all time.
As energetic as it is, most of the material here never pans out into anything interesting and ends up just sort of fizzling out by the end.
Favorite Tracks: Danger Is Go, Bombshell
Least Favorite Tracks: The One And Only, Megatronic, The Future That Never Was
Soundalike comparisons to other nu-metal bands aside, the vocals are majestic and the riffs are great. Dreamy with bits of aggression sprinkled throughout, it's pretty damn good.
Favorite Tracks: Downfall, Falling Apart, Hover, Running From Me, Figure 8, Take It All
Least Favorite Track: Drop To Zero
Half-hearted lyricism and delivery over droning, repetitive beats accompanied by an infectiously drowsy voice in Tyler's head makes this album bad not because it is offensive, but because it is boring.
Favorite Track: She
Least Favorite Tracks: Goblin, Radicals, Transylvania, Her, Sandwitches, Fish, Window
Pleasing vocals and good melodies across the board, but no song besides "Wasteland" ever really becomes anything that stands out super well. The first half of the album is noticeably better than the second half, however the writing was good all throughout.
Favorite Track: Wasteland
Least Favorite Track: Paralyzing Kings
Powerful vocals, great melodies, and immaculate production make this project a joy to hear, with just minor faults in the writing and pacing holding it back. Several of these tracks are stuck in my head.
Favorite Tracks: Remedy, Suffocate, Whatever You Became, Rain Song
Least Favorite Tracks: Sad Happy, Black Sunday, Kill The Music Industry
Pleasant and genuine, but not particularly noteworthy in any regard. There's nothing that hasn't been done before here, but it is done well.
Favorite Tracks: Carry You Home, Troubled Waters, Heaven Without You, You'll Be Alright, Kid
Least Favorite Track: Chasing Shadows
Although they mean well, the critiques of society and self-reflections present here feel surface level and somewhat tone-deaf in more ways than one. Despite that, there are some decent jams here.
Favorite Track: Catch Me
Least Favorite Tracks: Don't Get Me Wrong, Wonderful World, Sad to See You Sorrow
