RE-RE-REVIEW - November, 2024: I managed to get a CD of this and every time I listen to it gets better!
The rawness, melancholy, and anger on this record are really appealing. This record has about everything thrown into it: Nu-metal, alt-metal, fuzzy and dense grunge, alternative rock, shoegaze, even stoner rock. The surreal atmosphere on every track is amazing, Ross Robinson produced this, and he is pretty much the godfather of nu-metal in terms of production.

Engine No. 5 fell off.
They kind of sound like if Bush was a moody metal band.
To be honest, I thought this was a pretty solid album.
It's got plenty of great sounding drop-tuned power chord riffs and guitar effects. (Phaser and Wah pedal sales must've gone up like 200% when Nu-Metal started to catch on...) But lacks the obnoxious angst found in most Nu-Metal projects. There's no whiteboy rapping, DJ scratching, obnoxious screaming, or braggadocious lyrics to be found here. ... read more
An Interesting listen.
Cold's debut is hard to describe exactly describe. My best description is it sounds like a metal version of swervedriver.
It's cool to think that a dime-a-dozen radio rock from the 2000's laid the ground for bands like Fleshwater, Narrowhead, and to a lesser extent, Thornhill.
It's equally frustrating to consider that they didn't capitalize on it.
