Damn this album got sniped so hard, but it was a different time. Everyone wanted different but this is a great project. I’ve never delved into Taproot and I picked up Welcome for Record Store Day on a whim (Lovely Sky Blue pressing by the way) and it does have a Alice in Chains vibe to it but I think it’s a great Nu Metal project with some dirty vocals thrown in. What set this particular release different from Taproot's previous record, The Gift, is that it leans into more grunge influence, especially Alice In Chains in the vocals department. There are even moments of possibly artsy alternative rock on the record, on tracks "Breathe" and "Like". This album has some truly top-tier material on it, with some unusually deep lyrics for George W. Bush era nu metal at times. Some great riffing on it, and while Stephen Richards' voice may be a little on the whinier side on first listen, he has an unusually wide vocal range and some great screams.
