gotta really wonder about a kid who puts a bare ass on the cover like she's mooning everyone and then writes a bunch of lyrics about partying and going on vacations in the middle of a pandemic. The sliver spoon, cul-de-sac arty kid is growin up and it ain't pretty, much like her self-indulgent goofy dancing she seems rather incapable of self-reflection, mostly interested in navel-gazing (this was absolutely true on Pure Heroine and Melodrama, as good as they were). With this album to consider, ... read more

Pale Waves - Who Am I?
5

I liked some of the songs on the first album despite coming away with the impression that the singer was a sociopath trying to affect having depression and I listened to about half of this and decided their main desire is to be popular and famous and thats about all. Pretty emblematic of their generation that they do what amounts to be a cover version of older people's culture while simultaneously giving us the finger. Boring, twee, an album made up of songs that seem deliberately crafted to be ... read more

Robyn - Body Talk
100

what can you say about this album that hasnt already been said about the ecstasy of St. Teresa? oh I know: body talk made me gay. but seriously let's just break it down to one song out of a basket of excellent ones (and "cry when you get older" didnt even make the cut!!!) the fact that "call your girlfriend" is so perfectly worded as to leave it ambiguous whether it's from the perspective of the dumped or the mistress. only police era Sting was as good at multi layered sad ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.

does anyone play this any more on the regular? I remember being impressed with kendrick at first but once that wore off I realized I never really wanted to go back to his songs and contemplating a full listen of this or butterfly is a non starter. hes insufferable, preachy, boring. fetishizing cellulite is still objectification, it's not woke lmao. he even drops stuff about being a black israelite on this joint. hes a reactionary who looks progressive by the standards of hip hop.

ISIS - Panopticon

I actually like it even more than oceanic! but to me they are inseparable. hard to see metal getting any better than this.

Savages - Silence Yourself
98

might consider this the best album of the last decade but the lack of a compelling follow up and only 2 releases over 9 years is kind of lame. Jennhy Beth is a star in the uk (apparently) and shes hot as hell in that androgynous femme way that I dig so much but the real stars of this record are Gemma Thompson on guitar and the relentless Ayse Hassan on the bass.

ISIS - Oceanic

most stuff is bad compared to this, like Mozart and the beatles, chocolate, sex, etc

Justin Bieber - Changes
NR

imagine listening to this just so you can dunk on it pretending to be a critic on a little website. couldnt be me.

La Roux - Supervision
NR

it's really like a C plus or a B minus but i cant help but notice both critics and users are constantly comparing it to her previous records instead of the album on its own merits. admitting that your hopes were high and you're giving it low marks because it didnt live up to them is mostly a you problem, and emotional to boot. thats not valid criticism. it's like how every nas release was immediately compared to one of the 3 best rap albums of the 90s (illmatic) and found lacking (of course it ... read more

Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated

she's a meme for bernie voters. a song about maybe just watching tv together teehee! is this Christian pop?

Billie Eilish - WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?

Anyone over 24 pretending that they like this is a trendwhore desperate to be young & hip

if you're a zoomer this is exactly when edgy is actually corny as hell. trust fund brat with a direct line to a record deal. wow cool.

Screaming Females - All at Once

if you think this album doesn't kick ass wyd. marissa paternoster is like the love child of carrie brownstein and eddie van Halen. a pint sized riff monster

Father John Misty - Pure Comedy

can't get enough douchebag hipster beardo "i just discovered socialism in 2016 and i'm gonna be condescending about it" brooklyn bullshit? here's a whole album of it. Surprise! it sucks. If you want to listen to politically motivated left wing music don't pick up the fake ass gentrifier boxcar hobo's latest fuck off fake folk album. Its like DSA the album. Its the kind of album trust fund babies listen to so they can deflect blame for ruining yet another neighborhood with their thrift ... read more

Ride - Weather Diaries

I listened to it once. sometimes it's good to stay broken up but you gotta get that bread or whatever

Chelsea Wolfe - Hiss Spun
95

I really adore Chelsea Wolfe and I really liked this album for many.of the reasons the users didnt. "Vex" ft Aaron Turner of ISIS is essential. Converge's Kurt Ballou's production is excellent. I think a lot of the antipathy towards this record was that CW was going more metal and away from the moody goth folk but since that wasnt true I think it was a welcome and doomy detour.

"these reviews are always great because they're so full of cliches and they're so easy to write its like you could get a bot to do it and the irony is that they complain about whatever media it is not being relevant or original. look zoom-baby, literally your entire youth culture is the fumes of everyone else's compost. keep up the complaining about "boomers" tho"
