Apologies to the Queen Mary is one of the most entertaining and engaging 2000s indie rock albums I have ever heard. Most people talk about albums such as 'Hot Fuss' by the Killers (which I love), and whilst the praise is 100% deserved for those records, not enough praise is given to this one. This album is not known enough by the general population, which is unfortunate because it is truly amazing, even down to the title, which stems from when the band got kicked off of the ocean ... read more
Dusk at Cubist Castle is a very interesting album. The first half is mostly filled with psychedelic indie pop, reminiscent of The Beatles, however, the album takes a turn with the 'Green Typewriters' suite. The suite is a mix of psychedelic pop, noise rock, and drones, and it takes you on a ~24 minute acid-trip journey. After this, there is some semblance of the catchiness of earlier tracks, but much more experimental production methods are utilised. This second half is my personal ... read more
This album is an experience like nothing else I have heard. It's noisy and extremely abrasive. Yet somehow I semi-enjoy this album. Black Foliage is an amazing mix of pure psychedelic pop, experimental electronic noises, and interludes that bring every piece within the album together. No song on the album feels like it overstays it's welcome. Despite it's long runtime, the album rarely feels boring, besides one or two moments. These moments are mainly contained in the song 'The Bark and Below It'. As an experimental piece, it is wonderful. However, it can be off-putting for a casual listener, and is a ... read more
Jack Stauber's 'Pop Food' wears it's 80s influences its sleeve. Unlike Jack Stauber's previous album, 'Viator', this album is very poppy, with catchy melodies throughout. Stauber's vocals have been described as hard to understand, which I am inclined to agree with. It feels as if his voice is treated less as a mouthpiece for lyrics, but as another instrument within the song. Overall, the album is very upbeat, and extremely listenable.
