Just an absolute blast from front to back, not a dull moment on this one
not going to give this one a score since I didn't finish it, this vocal style is not for me
man, if Moonchild didn't have that section in the middle this would be an easy 10
*gulp* guys I swear, it's just that I like the music on this, I promise
But for real, this album is so much fun. So many memorable hooks, solid instrumental, and an absolutely incredible vocal performance throughout.
This album makes me feel emotions I didn't know I had; I think it's grief, but I'm not really sure. The only other album that has made me feel emotions so intense was A Crow Looked At Me, and this isn't too dissimilar a feeling. It's remarkable how Ritchie and Parker were able to capture such traumatic events (the passing of a friend, a worldwide pandemic) in a piece of music; it feels like you are right there with them, experiencing the pain they felt.
10/10
I mean, it's just like really good, y'know?
Nothing too off the wall experimental, just very good production with exceptional vocals throughout. No need to overcomplicate what works.
Wow, wasn't expecting for this to be my pop AOTY, but that's what it's looking like right now. Logical is a bit of a low point, but other than that, this album is special. Can't wait to see what she does next
Normally I side with the users rather than the critics, but man, I love this album, I don't know why the user score's so low. Yes, I'm a sucker for quality pop-punk, but the performances (particualrly the vocals) on this are top-notch. I also love all the different genres they play around with on this one, from glam rock (Poisoned Heart) to rockabilly (Thorns of Love) to alt-rock (Napalm Girls) and probably a few more that I'm missing. Legitimately my AOTY for 2020
The run from 3 Peat all the way to Let the Beat Build is absolutely incredible. Yes, it sounds a bit dated, but that late 2000's sound is super nostalgic for me as a late 90's kid. Like if this album was those 10 songs plus Lollipop, I would probably score this somewhere in the low 90s, but unfortunately a few less than stellar tracks near the end (particularly La La) sullies this album a bit. Still a great album though.
The zoomer part of me loves the chaotic, rapidly-changing concepts of this album. Then the overall music fan part of me just loves it bc it's great
I first listened to this album in March 2019, about 11 months after my first breakup, which was far enough out to not absolutely wreck me emotionally, but still resonate with me deeply. This caused me to go on a two to three week binge of this album where I basically didn't listen to anything else. The emotional connection I formed with this album during those first formative listens has shaped my view of this album, and I love it so much. It still brings back those bittersweet memories of that ... read more
When this album works (Throat IV), it really works, but unfortunately, the rest of it kinda ends up just sounding like noise for the sake of noise
The best kind of EPs are the ones that leave you wanting more, and this is no exception. This is all killer, no filler, an incredibly tight collection of summery indie/city pop tracks. Definitely a project for driving with the windows down
yo why does this kinda go?
Sure, I'm a sucker for vulnerable lyricism and soul beats like these, but I was pretty impressed by this one. I didn;t know Jack had it in him, but he delivers some empassioned bars over very slick production throughout this project.
