Holy shit. Literally shit. This thing is The Ultimate Shit. It’s absolutely crazy, every second is so captivating and full of life. Its energy is unbeatable, every instrument just screams passion, ESPECIALLY this fucking trumpet and saxophone. It’s got some amazing and complex rhythms that sound really non-western. I must also add that the story behind this album is insane. Quoting Wikipedia,
“The title of the album and first track refers to an incident in 1974. The Nigerian ... read more

神聖かまってちゃん [Shinsei Kamattechan] - つまんね [Tsumanne]

After seeing this cover a long time ago, I was dead sure it’s gonna be some chill indie folk. I was pretty blown away by what it actually was.
This album has a sound I have never really heard anywhere else. It’s some great electronics mixed with pop and psychedelia in a very specific way. The vocals are maniac, screeching and kind of cute. The lyrics are edgy as fuck, but in a good japanese way. What’s most important, it was REALLY danceable. Holy shit, that was good.

Charly García - Clics Modernos
93

"Grasa de las capitales" might be more original and mind-blowing, but, honestly, "Clics Modernos" is a better album.

Nearly every single song here is a classic. Its flow is great, especially in the second half, where the songs get progressively more depressing. Compared to "Grasa...", this album feels much more focused on a certain direction, both lyrically and musically. Lyrically, well, we'll get to that later. Let's talk about the music first. The ... read more

Choose "life"
choose a "job"
choose a "family"
choose a fockin unambitious SCOTTISH "NEO-PROG ALBUM" over a VERY progressive and innovative BOLIVIAN dj Chimp-AZ Ringtone Club
choose sitting on that "couch" listening mind-numbing, spirit-crushing "music", stuffing fucking "junk food" into your mouth
i chose not to choose Marilion
i chose somethin else
And the reason?
there ARE NO reason.
who need reason when you got heroin 💉

Bloodthirsty Butchers - No Album 無題

Yes Album
Bloodthirsty Butchers are, apparently, a case of a band that gets better with time. Their previous albums I have listened to had some problems; “Kocorono” was too long and inconsistent, “Birdy” and “Yamane” had some pretty uninteresting instrumental filler songs and “Birdy” had rather typical pop structures. “No Album” doesn’t do any of these things. It’s quite long, but surprisingly engaging, it’s ... read more

Mogwai - Come on Die Young

This album is like an old friend to me, so it was difficult to listen to it with a fresh mind. I did however and it definitely stood the test of time.
Minimalistic instrumentation with haunting melodies create an atmosphere that's difficult to describe. It's mostly quiet and slow, but when it gets more intense, it feels simply unreal. It's VERY rewarding.
At first, it was pretty difficult for me to get, but something about it just stuck with me and I had the need to listen to it ... read more

Weatherday - Hornet Disaster

Being this consistent throughout a 19 track long album is seriously an achievement. Sure, not every single song hits, but every single one of them did something unique, were memorable, or at least made sense in the context of the abum. Take for example my least favourite track, "Pulka". Sure, on its own it's not spectacular, but it comes when the album needed a faster and lighter song, and it did its job pretty well. If we talked about the highlights, there are quite a lot of ... read more

Los Jaivas - Los Jaivas (La ventana)

Love from Poland!
I kinda feel bad for giving it such a low score because the two first songs are truly incredible. However, I don’t think this album is that interesting as a whole. The entire second half is improvised and I have mixed feelings about that.
But yeah, "Mira Niñita" and "Todos juntos" are just something else. I love Chile.

Serú Girán - Grasa de Las Capitales
92

¡No transes más!

It’s one of the most creative albums I have ever come across, with some absolutely, absolutely unbelievable highlights. A part of me still wonders if this album is THAT good, but honestly, it is. Sometimes I tend to get overly critical and analytical when talking about music and maybe that’s the reason I doubt how great it is. Not every song is amazing, but every single one is memorable and stands out in some way. That’s right, every single one. ... read more

Invisible - El jardín de los presentes

Edit [72 -> 82]
Alright alright alright, I changed my mind. The best moments are even better than I remembered and don't think anymore that some songs are uninteresting. "Las golondrinas..." still feels weird to me, but in a way that kind of fascinates me. Those off-key notes actually add something interesting. "Doscientos años" holds most of its greatness in its instrumental breaks, not in the vocal lines. It's a damn good song which does a lot of ... read more

Burial - Burial

How did the same guy make fucking Untrue only a year after this album? How is "Distant Lights" so great compared with the rest? Did I miss something?
Though this album uses the same techniques as widely loved "Untrue", it's surprisingly unimaginative. The samples often don't match the melodies, the melodies themselves are rather awkward, many layers of the same song sound disconnected from each other.
Is it a bad album? No, I don't think so. But it's not ... read more

Squarepusher - Ultravisitor

You will never know whether the next track will be absolutely beautiful or batshit insane. Squarepusher himself said that it "will never be understood by anybody, least of all its creator" and it's basically this. The fact that it's so unpredictable is one of the most fun things about this album. By the way, the sounds of a cheering crowd in the least appropriate moments possible are way more funny than they should be.

Bloodthirsty Butchers - yamane
73

I had some weird stream of consciousness after listening to it, so in this review I just wanted to capture my thoughts as fast as possible. Yeah, my English isn’t perfect, but who cares, even The Butchers themselves are not native English speakers.

“happy end”
Don’t let this title fool you, it’s not happy at all.
This track does surprisingly much using, I think, just one guitar, bass and drums. Speaking of bass, it’s incredible. That line is absolutely ... read more

椎名林檎 [Ringo Sheena] - 歌舞伎町の女王 [Queen of Kabuki-cho]

It's an insanely pugnacious and downright disturbingly catchy song. The vocals are confident beyond words. I also love its dense instrumental and its ascending and descending melody. The lyrics are surprisingly dark though. They're about an underage prostitute, I had a good chuckle over that one 🤠
Yeah I might have stumbled upon something big

Bloodthirsty Butchers - Kocorono

It's some really competent and creative alt rock. The melodies don't always land, but they're not awkward either. Most of them are just quite specific and for me that's just a part of this album's personality.
It sure does go hard, but not in the way you would expect from a post-hardcore band called Bloodthirsty Butchers. This whole album sounds surprisingly introspective and its intense parts are actually more bittersweet or hopeful than angry or agressive. It has a ... read more
