πΊπΈ: The album is so disappointing. Aside from its production – which still has plenty of missteps – it’s a boring record with little to offer. There’s clearly a disconnect between the kind of lyrics Tate wants to write and sing and what she can actually deliver. It’s a trap she’s placed herself in, especially when we know exactly what she’s capable of with a strong single. That said, I’d even say I was generous with this rating.

πΊπΈ: Like many albums of its time, it’s heavily carried by its lead track. And what a track! But in this case, the album manages to stand on its own with some quality. Despite a few releases in between, this feels like the “true sequel” to the previous record, and the idea of starting it with a slightly remixed version of the last track from that earlier album reinforces that notion well (in an era when catalogs and Wikipedia were far from existence).

πΊπΈ: What a lovely album! I expected it to be fun, but I didn’t expect to have such a great time with it. It’s very cohesive, doesn’t stray far from the excellent opening track, and constantly makes you think, “Wow, how do their voices fit so well despite being so vastly different?” No wonder it has stood the test of time. I just wish it were remastered for a better listening experience.

πΊπΈ: Pop in its most classic form. It's an excellent and grand album, as the genre always demands. The truth is that any artist could have been successful with it. The key factor, however, is that no one did it before Katy Perry while it's also true that we spent the entire beginning of the decade listening to reductive versions of it.

πΊπΈ: One of the peaks of 2010s Pop music emerged right at the beginning of the decade. A song that feels like it hasn't aged a single day, with detailed production, a lyric that's both strange and familiar, and the best vocals Katy has delivered to date.

πΊπΈ: She had to start somewhere, right? And this beginning is far from the hitmaker Rihanna we’re familiar with. It’s an inconsistent, weak album, vocally flawed, and tries to sell her as an exotic performer, when she clearly SHINES in big hits like the track that carries the record. It’s dispensable and perhaps only interesting to witness her immense evolution later on.

πΊπΈ: Olivia's follow-up manages to be even more impactful than her debut. She brought a newfound sophistication to her lyricism—which already cements her as one of the greatest songwriters of her generation—enhanced her vocal tools, and, alongside Dan Nigro, shines in productions that feel far more contemporary than simply "drawing from the past." Certainly an unparalleled evolution, though it sets an incredibly high bar for her next act.

πΊπΈ: It's incredibly refreshing to have started the decade with such a solid and powerful debut like Olivia's. Not only did she bring some Pop Rock back, but she also went head-to-head with already established stars in a way we haven't seen in a debut in ages. Great songs at the right time.

πΊπΈ: I know many fans don’t like this record for being “just Pop,” but Beyoncé is phenomenal at doing “just Pop.” It is indeed her most commercial work, but it’s also where some of her classics are. It’s the most contemporary she has ever sounded. I think it’s a huge achievement in her discography and everything she did afterward. I’ll always root for her to go back to making “just Pop” at this level.

πΊπΈ: Janet's renewed "debut" (with many quotes) stands as one of Pop's greatest musical reinventions. Visually stunning, sonically inventive, highly danceable, and featuring lyrics that hinted at a deeper, more poetic approach beyond mere attention-seeking. While there was still room for vocal growth, this marked the beginning of something extraordinary for... Miss Jackson, if you're nasty!

πΊπΈ: It's a good album, though heavily carried by its excellent lead single. Still, it doesn't disappoint much, even if it lacks other tracks as impactful as the main one. It's highly danceable and brings the Funk element to the forefront, pushing beyond the Disco craze. Michael's vocals are outstanding here, already showcasing the maturity of the voice we later associate with his adult career.

πΊπΈ: It's a nice little album, with very little personality but a Pop Rock sound that suits Demi's voice perfectly. It served as a good entry point for her, especially considering the "Disney" control over pop artists. It was a smart move to bring in the Jonas Brothers to produce the album, given their own prior sonic success and status as fellow young stars.

πΊπΈ: I'm not very knowledgeable about K-Pop, but the algorithm recommended them to me. Once I checked them out, I understood: a Y2K aesthetic, Little Mix-inspired sound, and 90s-style choreography. Nothing groundbreaking, but solidly okay. Rooting for them!

πΊπΈ: A double album inspired by the sound of five previous decades, with a touch of modernity, no covers, and released in the mid-2000s? It's a brave task, requiring an artist of Christina's caliber to pull it off with the necessary mastery. This album manages to sound both fresh and retro simultaneously, featuring excellent compositions, clever use of samples, organic instrumentation... A true work of art.

πΊπΈ: If anyone still doubted Madonna's artistry despite the immense quality of her previous pop albums, this is where she proves herself - at least to the most skeptical - by presenting her own "religion". Personal songs, fearless vocals, daring productions, and even cleverly libertine compositions. A "divine" way to close one of the most audacious decades in Pop music, if i do say so myself.

πΊπΈ: It's like a Debut, despite being his second album. But this is where Usher finds the persona and the type of sound that made him a Y2K Idol. His voice here already shows an impressive maturity for someone so young—strong and assertive, yet tender and smooth. It's a combination that's still hard to match. The production and lyrics, however, are overshadowed by the album's massive hit.

πΊπΈ: It's the beginning of Mariah's more turbulent times, and despite some questionable choices and a more "I'm one of the crowd too" vibe, the album still manages to fulfill its purpose well. The signs of vocal strain are noticeable, but they don't overshadow the brilliance of the kind of interpretation she's capable of. A great run of singles and an iconic visual, faltering only in the production itself.

πΊπΈ: What Cher accomplishes on this album is surreal. Even though it’s 45 years old, the mixing still holds up remarkably well. While it undeniably reflects the sound of its era, it possesses a unique quality in its material that sets it apart from most albums of that period. Perhaps one of her best works, and certainly one of the standout albums of the Disco Pop days.

πΊπΈ: I’m not very fond of Bunny’s voice, and his personality can be... annoying. That said, and knowing that this album would hardly align with my tastes, I was happily surprised by the songwriting and production choices. It’s a high score for a genre only tangentially Pop. My biggest critique is the lack of editing—it’s excessively long. If more concise, it could have had broader appeal, but I don’t think that was his intent.
