This is the maturing of Brockhampton. This is them (hopefully) making a switch from fun, goofy pop rap to lyrical hip-hop. Songs like DEARLY DEPARTED and VICTOR ROBERTS show us some of the most meaningful performances we've ever seen from the boy-band. I truly hope that they continue in this direction for future releases.
When I first listened to this album back in May, I thought it was kind of lackluster, but I still enjoyed it. It may not be a lyrical masterpiece, but who cares? This album is just straight up fun. It mixes basic pop with PC music influences like SOPHIE. Hell, Dylan Brady of 100 gecs produced one track. Great replay value, also. If this is the direction of pop in the 2020s, I am going to be here for the ride.
This album feels like the conclusion of his life. The lyrics are reflective and make you feel empathetic towards him. The instrumentals are sweet and soft, but not so soft that they put you to sleep. R.I.P Malcolm.
