An insanely fun 30 minutes.
While being far from the level of Denzel’s earlier albums this is still an album that is executed well. The entire album feels like one big posse cut, with everybody delivering super fun verses. Denzel wasn’t making a masterpiece; he was making a moment. A moment that he is proudly sharing with all his collaborators. Throughout the entire 30-minute runtime you not once get the feeling that this album takes itself too seriously, not in the sense of it ... read more
This project was bound to be great the second it got announced. MIKE and Earl teaming up with Surf Gang for an entire album? Count me in!
On my first few listens of this album I must admit I didn’t like it as much as I do now. It felt like it dragged on for too long with too little substance in the songs, but upon further listening I discovered that this is exactly what I needed in the current state of my music taste. Having a project this replayable by these two artists I am already such ... read more
"My share of confidence just twisted in the herb"
MIKE really is one of those artists that just hit deep every time.
While this was only my fourth ever project from the New York rapper it still impresses me just as much as the others have. On his 2022 tape "Beware Of The Monkey", MIKE does what he does best: awesome lyricism over production that makes you float to the moon and back.
In the 33 minute runtime, he manages to touch on subjects that leave you feel vulnerable ... read more
If you had asked me for my favourite albums about a year ago, my answer would’ve been very clear: “Anything by Jane Remover and Quadeca and kenopsia by quannnic”. This album is absolutely fascinating in every sense of the word.
Prior to listening to this album I had never heard of quannnic and am honestly not quite sure how I even ended up listening to this for the first time. But what I can tell you is that I am so incredibly glad I did because wow was I obsessed with it at ... read more
I really only checked this album out because Venna frequented my Twitter timeline over the last month and I was extremely intrigued if I’d like the music he makes and it’s safe to say I 100% do.
This album features some extremely smooth, soul-warming instrumentation, mixed with occasional vocal performances by some of my favourite artists (MIKE, Smino, Jorja Smith, etc.) who all perform very well on this album, although it was really unexpected to see them on this. Venna is an ... read more
Short review:
This album has been really incredible to me ever since it dropped. How Robert Smith manages to still be so incredibly good at singing after all these years is an absolute mystery I have no clue how he does it.
Everything on this album is phenomenal. The lyrics, the production, the vocals, the soundscape, everything.
It's finally here! After 4 years, and a few appearances on the new Matt Champion, Bon Iver and Justin Bieber albums, Dijon finally drops the follow-up to his 2021 debut "Absolutely", which is easily one of the best, and also one of my personal favourite, Alternative R&B albums in recent years.
This album, however, is pretty different from his last. While "Absolutely" had sweet melodies and an overall warm feeling, this album is a lot more chaotic, unhinged and ... read more
Short review:
One of the best west coast albums of all time, Q’s delivery over this hard hitting production is flawless. The album generally has a certain aesthetic, one that is so beautifully executed that it leaves nothing to be desired. On top of all of that we get features from some pretty big names, who all do an amazing job. This album is something special in it’s very own way.
Wow. Just wow.
I need to be honest with you guys… When I first heard that this mixtape was dropping this week, I did not care at all. Not because I don’t like this guy’s music, but because I was honestly just kind of sick of seeing him everywhere after the release of “father“ which, to me, didn’t sound all that good when it first came out (I had only ever heard a few clips on Twitter and what-not, so I didn’t really hear enough to form my own ... read more
Thanks to @Gstv for the recommendation!<3
While this was mostly a snooze fest, I am glad I listened to it because there were some pretty good moments.
My biggest complaint about this album are honestly the vocal performances, while dreamy and calming on a few songs, they become absolutely jarring to listen to on others, like Years, which features some horrible mixing, making the vocals kind of go in and out of my brain which makes them sound so bad, I can not fathom how this song made it ... read more
Navy Blue Discography Deep Dive
Chapter 1: Àdá Irin
"My basic flaws seem deeper than they are"
American model, skateboarder, record producer, visual artist and rapper Sage Elsesser, commonly known by his stage name Navy Blue, released his debut album Àdá Irin on February 4th, 2020. Àdá Irin is a phrase from the Yoruba language and translates to "Iron Cutlass". Being taken from the Yoruba deity Ogun, the God of War and Iron, the ... read more
Not only has Little Simz just dropped one of the best albums of the year, but she has managed to expand her ongoing discography of classics with yet another one.
Little Simz has been one of my absolute favourite artists of all time ever since I discovered her music around 3 years ago. Her past three albums, NO THANK YOU, SIMBI and Grey Area are all albums I love and even own on vinyl, spinning them regularly and even her 2015 album A Curious Tale of Trials + Persons is one I really enjoy and ... read more
BRIEF REVIEW
Twitch streamer PlaqueBoyMax releases his debut mixtape and going into this I didn’t expect much from it, mostly because I’m in no way, shape or form a big fan of this guy’s personality and also because the other songs I’ve heard from him struggled to click with me and weren’t very good overall.
The production on this mixtape is honestly the only thing that stopped this from being fully unlistenable, although it’s still not good but much like ... read more
This is an amazing collab between two very promising artists who I enjoy listening to, what more do you want?
Pink Siifu, especially, has been an artist I’ve been insanely interested in, in recent times. After hearing ensley back in February and really liking it, I instantly went to check out his newest album, titled BLACK’!ANTIQUE which is still one of my favourite albums of this year. Just recently I also listened to his 2021 deluxe album and that has quickly become one of my ... read more
Oh man…
This was honestly a really disappointing listen for me. While I haven’t heard much MIKE stuff, I have been wanting to get into his music for ages and have been patiently waiting for it to click for me. I enjoyed his other album from this year, titled Showbiz! but I feel like I could’ve enjoyed it a lot more especially because I’m usually a really big fan of the style of music he makes.
This album is different from the last one, in the sense that it is, at ... read more
Oh. My. God. He has done it again.
This new billy woods album has been my most anticipated release of the year ever since it got announced and when the singles released, my anticipation grew even stronger.
But before we get into that, let’s talk about billy woods, who, in my opinion, is easily the best lyricist in hip hop of all time. I am absolutely in love with his writing technique and love sitting there and deciphering what he talks about in his songs. To add to that, he has one ... read more
Brief review (rating an album I own on vinyl but haven't rated):
This album is a genuine masterpiece of emotionally heavy lyrics, accompanied by heavy hip hop/punk production.
The themes on this album are so insanely personal, tackling mental health all throughout the album. I absolutely loveee this album I wish it was just a bit longer.
I have the alt cover version of this on vinyl and I honestly prefer that cover over this one, it's so good.
One of my favourite albums of all time.
Holy shit… what an experience.
D4vd is an artist I’ve been listening to for quite a bit now. The song “This Is How It Feels“ featuring Laufey off his 2023 EP titled Petals to Thorns has been in rotation ever since it dropped, it is absolutely gorgeous.
Aside from that song, though, I did take kind of a break from his music ever since that first EP. His second EP is one that kind of came and went for me so I wasn’t expecting too much with whatever he was going to ... read more
Album swap with @alomunia <3
This might just be one of the weirdest and goofiest albums ever and I don’t know how to feel about it.
ZelooperZ, an artist I have previously heard on many features and found pretty intriguing, is someone I just really have been wanting to check out for quite some time now. When Luca told me to finally listen to this album, I got really hyped and got right into it.
I don’t know why, but I forgot to check the genres before listening to this so I got ... read more
Happy Bon Iver music??? COUNT ME IN.
Holy ballsy balls, Justin Vernon has done it again. My very bald Serbian friend has been practically begging me to listen to this album so here I am! Bon Iver are one of those bands that I have been needing to listen to more stuff of because I genuinely loved everything I’ve heard from them so far. “Bon Iver, Bon Iver“ is a classic that I should really relisten to because it’s been a while and “22, A Million“ is one of my ... read more
