Ninajirachi - I Love My Computer
82

Don’t you just love it when you discover a banger of an album from an artist you’ve never heard of AND they’re doing a CONCERT in a city near you THIS Friday? Sometimes there’s a reason in being alive after all.

edit: this record does not feel nostalgic or oldschool to me at all, personally - maybe it’s bc I was too young, or wasn’t tuned into y2k or electronic music and media during that period of my life. Almost every song feels fun, progressive, and has ... read more

Lorde - Virgin

Queen of having raw sex 😍

On a more serious note, I think I'd consider this a massive improvement from "Solar Power" - a record that I honestly haven't cared to revisit ever since its release year. And while "Virgin" is not comparable to "Melodrama" or "Pure Heroine" in terms of personality and explosiveness, it's still very much a pleasant progression/combination of Lorde's musical quirks. "GRWM" sounds like a child of ... read more

Dev Lemons - SURFACE TENSION
87

I already loved some of Dev Lemons’ solo stuff before this, but was still incredibly impressed by how tight and cohesive this little record is. The first 5 tracks are straight up one banger after another, just the right level of energy, distortion, edgy and sour lyrics. "Stuck Again" to me serves as an effective interlude introducing the album’s second half. Sure, this and the next track sound a bit too somber and barebones for their own good, but they do have pretty ... read more

Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk

A YAP session and another serious listen-through for the album I have had on repeat for the past few months! I also went to see them live, 'twas fire πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

- She Looked Like Me!
Super intriguing lyrics, but sonically it doesn't have much to offer. This is also the one instance in the album where I'm just okay with the drums - grandiose, but feels digital, stiff and one-dimensional. The live-show version with Nick’s electric drumming is superior imo - a perfect intro ... read more

Rebecca Black - SALVATION

Nothing has tickled my brain this much since SOPHIE’s ‘product.’ Seriously, songs like Sugar Water Cyanide and Tears in My Pocket blew my fucking mind. The album will be on repeat, and tour tickets will be secured.

Charli xcx - BRAT
85

October 2024 - One more serious listen-through after 4 months of brat summer - in anticipation of the remix album:

- 360: was meh at first but now it acts as a great simplistic intro; good for strutting
- Club classics: been travelling and clubbing a lot this summer, and ooooh mama this song makes the dance floor feral; fav
- Sympathy is a knife: vulnerable lyrics + heavy synthwork = sonic heaven for a "how I'm feeling now" stan (aka me); fav
- i.m.s.s.s: somber interlude, nice ... read more

Quadeca - SCRAPYARD

Ok so I've given this album many listen throughs and my feelings for it change each time. Some songs made me sad, some got me bopping, some left me disoriented / head scratching, and some gave me severe migraines. (Truly the trademark of a mixtape.) I'll probably crawl back to this record several more times because I think the tracks I liked will grow on me even more due to their strengths - decent lyrics, infectious beats and instrumentals that know when to become raw or luscious.
ps: thank ... read more

WILLOW - empathogen
81

First time listening to a full WILLOW album! I love this jazz pop/rock style. There were some undeveloped songs, but for the most part, Willow's seamless vocals and ability to create catchy tunes shine through out the tracklist. Her NPR live performance rocked too. Fav non-single tracks are "the fear is not real", "false self", and "run!".

Billie Eilish - HIT ME HARD AND SOFT
80

Solid record from Billie. Not all touches of experimentation or fusion landed perfectly, but when they worked, shit sounded entrancing. Surprisingly, Birds of A Feather, the most straightforward and "mainstream" song on the album ended up becoming the one I go back for the most. Still looking forward to whatever Billie and Finneas cook up next.

Sufjan Stevens - Javelin
84

This is my first Sufjan album I've listened through and through 10+ times (I listened to Illinois and Carrie & Lowell in the past as well but I haven't spent much time with them yet). Javelin combines what I loved the most in those two albums - layers upon layers of gorgeous instruments and lyrics that never fail to cause catharsis. Exquisite backing vocals, effortless transitions into ambient and electronic passages. It's beautiful, and it's fucking devastating. I might not be the biggest ... read more

Jockstrap - I Love You Jennifer B
86

Amazing. The slower songs are mysterious and enchanting, and the bangers have production that tickles a very specific part of my brain. Solid album overall. You can really tell (and see it on stage) that Taylor and Georgia create magic together.

Jessie Ware - That! Feels Good!
87

I'm a whore for grandiose and sexy instrumentals. 9/10 across the board.

83

Wow. First Indigo de Souza record and I'm blown away. The singles are amazing and there are some gems in the tracklist too. The Water and Not My Body are honestly so luscious, raw, and transformative even. Younger and Dumber made me sob on the first couple of listens - almost like a gut punch when the song reaches its climax.

Kesha - Gag Order
79

And just like Paramore, I went from knowing 1-2 popular songs of Kesha to being so wholly entranced throughout the record that I was still obsessed even after repeated listens.

76

Seeing her Coachella performances of these songs made me realize that this album truly deserves every bit of praise it receives. Like goddamn, the vocaLE, the playfulness, the charisma, the emotions - she poured it all out into these songs. Actually preferred the live show setlist/sequencing more than the actual record, but still... I don't know a single word of Spanish but my attention was CAUGHT. These are the first materials I hear from her, and I can't wait to listen to her other albums.

death's dynamic shroud - Darklife
77

I've rinsed this album through at least three separate times per week for the past several months. Chaotically fun and catchy in the best way possible. Lots of emotional and sombre moments too surprisingly. Amazing buildups and satisfying beat drops. I still don't see myself getting bored anytime soon, that's for certain. Still new to this genre of music - super glad DDS is one of my introductions.

Paramore - This Is Why
83

My first Paramore album everrrr. It's catchy, succinct, and heavy both in terms of beat and lyrics. Banger opener and closer. Full of songs that have hooks stuck in my brain for weeks on end, and I love it. Made me super duper excited to dive into their discography.

Harry Styles - Harry's House
64

Some songs are perfectly fine, and some songs are... not. Being high couldn't even salvage it.

Grimes - Art Angels
85

My first Grimes album! I came across We Appreciate Power the song on YouTube a few years ago and have been very impressed with it. I also found Realiti on a really old playlist of mine, so I guess I was't completely unfamiliar to her music. While there were a few tracks that I thought didn't fit in with the overall vibe very much, I thoroughly enjoyed this thing pretty much front to back. Very dreamy, perfect amount of reverb πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ Just an amazing art pop project.

Magdalena Bay - mini mix vol. 3
88

banger after banger after banger but it's magbay so it's nothing new.
