Listening Party, Part 2 w/ @Cry
While my first review marked Hurry Up, We're Dreaming in an extremely positive light, I'm glad to report that the emotional bond I share with this project has only risen exponentially in nature.
Hurry Up, We're Dreaming is by no means a perfect project. See, while I revisit this album every now and then, it isn't exactly relistening material. Your first listen warrants all your love for it. If you come back for more, you might be pleasantly surprised or bored ... read more
This dish might not be to everyone's (westernized) taste on a hungover morning, and it's also a breakfast with many components—rice, grilled fish, miso soup, pickles, and a Japanese-style omelette—and some relatively obscure ingredients. Having said that, this is as clean, wholesome, and nutritious as breakfast gets, so if anything is going to make you feel better it may well be this. However, I advise you to steer clear of tofu with a hangover (vegetarians: you may shoot me now); ... read more
Unironically, this single actually goes. I've been observing his creative process for a while, and he managed to refine these vocals from a rather disjointed template which was birthed out of the lack of proper resources to record audio. The vocals start off mediocre, but they kick in quite well towards the second half and the second verse. However what's hard to ignore is the Joji inspiration, the production and the vocal effects seem to be heavily inspired by songs from Nectar. As a first ... read more
this basically sounds like me after eating at taco bell I shouldn't have asked for extra hot sauce but the waitress was "kind" enough to pass me a lot i had every single one and I swear I didn't even leave the packets behind but now each and everyone is adding to my misery and making my stomach explode
Listening Party (w/ my good friend @Cry)
No matter how much this album has grown down on me over the last few years. (I used to think this was literally the best album of all time at one point), the memories, nostalgia, and relative pop innovation on here are commendable. There's a degree of over-professionalism and intentional perfectionism on this album, which is pretty much a testament to the ties Lorde had that helped her gain her claim to fame, but it almost feels well earned given how ... read more

Hey AOTY Community! I know it might've been rather worrisome to you beautiful people that I was absent from reviewing for quite a while, but I've come to explain what exactly I've been doing, and what exactly I've been going through. I don't know where to start with this, I know I'm still an avid part of this site's proceedings but I have abstained from reviewing for quite a while. Your typical reaction to this would be "oh, they went through a ... read more

Do you know what Khaled Mohamed Khaled, better known by his stage name DJ Khaled, an American DJ, record executive, record producer, and media personality does? He carefully masters, creates, composes and directs his studio full-length projects, more commonly referred to "Albums" (Which is pretty false as DJ Khaled's marvelous works of art are not on the level of other more mediocre music collages given the same title, instead their a level above)? So that the general public composed ... read more

Kero Kero Bonito's Civilisation II, a project that was expected by the end of 2019 or early 2020, is a testament to what the Covid pandemic has brought upon everyone. I have been anxiously waiting 3 years for a studio LP that never came last year, and likely will be out about 2 years late in 2022.
The band seems all the same while also having some stark contrasts. A major rumor that circled around was the lack of band ... read more

Well, it seems like I was right. The subtle teasing over the past few weeks was clearly directed to the Since I Left You B-Sides I've dreamt of for a year at this point. Of course, there's a promising bag of other releases that could also find a new pair of legs on streaming soon, the ones that come to my mind are the Japan-exclusive reimpression of Everyday and the now-infamous "With My Baby"

Of course, for it's many flaws, From Me To You is clearly far from perfect, but it's the odd poignant, melodramatic, unpredictable and progressive nature of this project that gives it and edge over most stuff released this year. Of course the tacky lyricism and vocals that reminisce anything from hyperpop heavyweights, to artists like Brackence, Eden, Joji and Frank Ocean. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but save for a major sonical offender in the form "Smiling At The ... read more
Chanelling your local lo-fi hip-hop dealer from the 90s, and proving his mettle as a producer to anyone who doubts his legitimacy today, then 20 odd year old Kanye puts forward his sole suite of standalone productions, that too unofficial. While yes, not all of them provide ample quality to write home about, a select few of these are ahead of their time, like most of this man's work. And there's a touch of class to almost every instrumental on here, with a seemingly high amount of consistency ... read more
How does a legend of yesterday create a summative body of work with a synth maestro from two generations ahead? Not to mention that a whole orchestra is coupled to their project. On paper, Promises was quite the promise, and the titling of the project was interesting considering it coincided with a Xiu Xiu release date, and their opus with a peculiar album cover was named "A Promise".
I've never really delved into this realm of music a whole lot. Pharaoh Sanders' "Live In ... read more
The sole complaint I have with this track is that the rest of the gang couldn’t murder this beat in their own way, but who cares when you have Uncle Danny.
Kevin Abstracts steals the show big time with his lyrically potent and high energy verse on the opening half. It’s almost like this could pass as a solo cut by him and still be perfect, but the instrumental and feature do him fair justice.
Danny sounds as wild as ever on this amped up and crisp instrumental assisted in the ... read more
