Jake Ryan's 'Blind' is a confident, fully realised debut that channels the spirit of 1970's piano-driven pop while maintaining its own identity. Knowing the amount of work that went into this, it's gratifying to hear that effort reflected so clearly in the music. The album's funky, piano-rock core recalls the era of Billy Joel, Elton John and Paul McCartney whose influence Ryan embraces but does not mimic.
