Radio Ethiopia's placement in Patti Smith's discography reminds me of For The Roses' placement in Joni Mitchell's. They hold the impossible task of measuring up to the masterpiece albums that came before them (Horses, Blue). Both albums suffer because of this and seem mediocre in comparison, but when you really dive deep and look at them without thinking of any other projects, they stand out as important works with their own identities.

This style of songwriting doesn't always work for me, but Fiona Apple always pulls it off (especially on this album)! Every song comes from deep in the artist's soul and you can tell she was heavily inspired during the process of making this masterpiece. In my opinion, this is the best written album of all time.
