My bandmate told me this is his favorite Deathcore band so I figured I’d finally listen to the divisive Paleface. Turns out they aren’t bad musicians but possibly bad songwriters. There’s no build up to any heavy parts, the lyrics are offensively bad, etc. I found myself sort of indifferent about it at the end.
I’ve been listening to a ton of music that I love so I figured I’d revisit an album that I don’t hold any affection towards. Contrary to popular belief this record isn’t terrible, but it’s not very good either (all relative obviously). It’s so disjointed and at times amateurish in its songwriting while at other times it feels new and exciting but those moments fade fast. The best tracks on here would be throwaways on any other Code Orange record.
There’s at least one moment of brilliance on each track. Amazing that these guys are still consistently putting out some of the best heavy music.
God I love this band so much. This album is like staring out the window on a rainy day.
There’s a reason my Rise Against poster still hangs on my wall, these early albums rip.
Bowling For Soup was an early band for me getting into pop punk. Unfortunately this album is two great songs smashed between varying hunks of shit. Sort of a shame but nostalgia doesn’t save this one for me.
Some might see this as a guilty pleasure but I genuinely think this is a really solid album. GC was a stepping stone band for me getting into punk rock and I think a lot of these songs have some depth to them. Only thing that holds it back is the production, guitars are so thin on here.
Pretty enjoyable pop rock record with a huge dose of nostalgia.
POV: The worst band you know made a good album.
In all seriousness, this is lowest common denominator Deathcore / Metalcore done to a T.
Desperately wanted to like this but it’s just a bit too much for me. Especially being a huge fan of NFG and these boys coming from Lima but Stay Out is still a huge banger.
Controversies and politics aside CMI is at their best when they are fist shaking but the bravado gets old and gross at certain points.
It’s no secret Haywire has been the talk of the HC community in terms of their live shows and ANY TIME ANY PLACE mantra but their record also speaks for itself.
Such a paradoxical record. Combining two things that should be taboo but feels so complimentary and feeling so refreshingly new but so throwback at the same time.
