This is exactly why you join a site like this; to discover incredible music that you'd otherwise not be exposed to. Amazing album.
Remember the Community episode where the Dean gets totally immersed in that vintage VR system? That's the way I want to explore the soundscapes in this album
I mean, its cool but it certainly sounds like your headphones are plugged in 3/4 of the way so you're only hearing two parts of the whole song
Beyond her amazing writing, flow, and vocals, I think the secret sauce of this album is the way she can so casually toss off the most impactful, devastating ,and life-affirming lines. Then pair all that up with truly passionate guitar playing where you can feel the emotions in the actual vibration and resonance of the strings, & what you get is a group of songs that feels like you are sitting right next to her captivated by the stories she is telling you. <3 Auntie Jo
Celebrated in its day, but has aged to be even better.
Everyone on here is flowing so well in their pockets. Production that feels like world building; it is so beautiful with an underlying melancholy in Phife’s honor.
I have such strong memories of listening to this during my first semester in college. Now it’s been a decade wtf man I’m old
As an album, it’s a bit too same-y. The songs all blend into each other, and then into the background.
However, I’m sure if any of these songs came up on shuffle in a playlist it’d be a great time!
Sooo… a light 7/10 it is 😁
Feels like the main vocals are mixed out so Im listening to the isolated instrumentals of these songs. Very chill, but it’s just not for me rn.
I started out simply enjoying the album but still appreciating the previous one more. Then I was caught up in the Cameron Winter praise and Heavy Metal suddenly clicked with me after not thinking much of it on first listen. Now this album has won me over, and has become a slight obsession. I understand and am excited by the hype!
It’s an interesting point in life to recognize that the hottest band of the moment is comprised of members all younger than yourself. To me it felt like Black ... read more
It’s like they tried to make the crescendo of the album in each track
Some of the most poetic words on surviving grief I’ve heard.
Not an uncommon theme for a modern rap album, but Sage’s writing elevates this to one of those special works of art where the personal becomes universal.
A frustrating listen for me. It feels too weightless and stop/start musically because it mostly builds tension with very rare releases. We almost never get to live in the full climax of an instrumental and when we do they are either short, end abruptly, or have a winking joke like the ending of Mio Cristo Piange Diamanti.
Of The Sorrows is an alltimer. I teared up listening to it for the first time while at work, and I'm sure I will many time in the years to come when I revisit it.
I just love this style of spoken word and electronic music! "Poems To Dance To" in the words of Antony Szmierek. But I'm having such trouble finding more of this stuff... Is it really only those 2 plus Real Lies and Benefits who are doing this? Is it a new genre that just hasn't been categorized yet? I need ... read more
Some thoughts on track 5 Clueless:
It contains the contradiction of "Life changes, but I don't... yet I do". When did that happen? When did I become the person I am now? How did I make it here?
As we grow, out problems do as well. We get stronger with more experience, but so do the challenges we face. We feel our problems are too big to overcome... but how did I get to where I am now? I must have made it through before..
Emotionally feeling stuck in a frozen adolescence, but ... read more
I love how home-made this sounds. It blew my mind as a kid the way he was rhyming on Nostalgia and Brain Cells
When developing a music taste of my own in high school, this was my first Favorite Album ❄️💜
Hard for me to rate (or even return very often to) this because it is less of an album and more of a direct Time Machine back to 2016
Might be the album I am farthest off of the general consensus on. To me it’s such a bright summer wedding album with the only “bad” song being Hot Shower (but I still have fun with that one anyway). I guess I’m crazy for this but it’s good vibes to me 😅
