Really awesome and cohesive pair of tracks. This is nearly to the point of their angel EP for me as far as enjoyment. The chorus on the first track is still a tiny bit questionable for me but I'm warming up to it. Love love love this band and I'm really looking forward to their future output.
This has a lot more post-hardcore influence that I wasn't expecting. The way that it's used here though I think subtracts a little bit from this album. The softer sections here feel kind of generic a bit a kill the momentum and flow of these tracks for me. The heavy sections are amazing as always though. This band really knows how to deliver very intense and crushing passages.
I really like the vibe of this album but the track quality goes down hill as the record goes on. About a third of the album is kinda mid but there’s a solid batch of tracks front running and a few nice bops sprinkled through the run time.

So I’ve been listening through all these albums and this is the first one I hadn’t heard. The first couple songs I actually felt were endearing and had some pretty good production. After I got passed the third song though this album started going downhill. It's like half way through they changed producers and the songs lost all the punch previous tracks had. Some of the absolute worst and most annoying songs these guys have ever created end up on this thing. And the ideas and song ... read more
Even though I didn’t rate these songs positively (except Fading West), I admire the extreme changeup of sound here. It’s probably the most interesting set of sounds the band has played with. I could definitely tell they had a vision with every track here, I just don’t really think they were able to pull it off all that well. Even though I don’t like this EP that much, I can definitely give it respect. The best stuff they had put out since Oh! Gravity, and definitely ... read more
I was really wanting this to be good going into it. Thankfully, the performances aren’t all that bad. They’re a little disappointing but they could definitely be worse. The real problem here is the mix. It is so flat. It feels like there is absolutely zero depth to any of these performances. It’s unfortunate because if this had a mix that made everything pop, it would be a much better listen. The bass continues to slap and be the best part of these songs though.
I very much appreciate when a band is brave enough to change up their sound like this. The problem is that Switchfoot carried over all the mediocre and annoying things they were doing on their two previous albums and just slapped a new coat of paint on it. They try to have all these motivational and personal moments, but the whole album sounds over blown and insincere so it’s impossible for me to connect. This is not a step up in any way.
The only thing holding this album back for me are the vocals on Psycho. Most of everything else is a 90 and up. Classic and Iconic.
One of the most iconic metal debuts ever probably. The front half of this album kicks so much ass. The energy is so manic and infectious. It’s almost impossible for me to not move my head or jump around. Admittedly, the second half is not nearly as strong, but all together still makes for an amazing metal experience. I love the hell out of this album despite its flaws.
Favorite tracks: Everything up to Soil
I LOVE the sound of this album. Even when some of the song structures feel clunky or a little incomplete, I'm still able to enjoy this album front to back because the sound is so good. Really feel good, creative, and beautifully harsh collection of tracks.
Favorite tracks: Freak, Sweet, Slide, Pocket, Heavy Water
This album feels like it's barely hanging on to itself, like it's ready to pop at any second. The intensity and mix is amazing. Sometimes it feels like you're being swallowed whole. Really, really good project and I'm glad that it's getting the recognition it deserves.
This was my introduction to Chelsea Wolfe and I’m impressed. The production here is awesome and her voice pairs well with it.
There a few times where I felt a song or two had some poor pacing, and there are a few questionable decisions made with the instrumentals, but when this album is good, it pops out and is really moving. I’m really looking forward to listening to the rest of her discography.
Favorite tracks: Whispers in the Echo Chamber, Tunnel Lights, Place in the Sun
Switchfoot used to be my favorite band growing up, and this album used to be one of my favorites, so I say this with genuine disappointment: this thing is horrible. So many bad ideas. I’m seriously shocked that this band wrote like 70 songs for this album and this is supposed to be the best of the best. The only songs here I even found decent were the opener, Your Love Is A Song, and the closer. The worst by far is Bullet Soul. That song feels like it’s actively trying to get on my ... read more
This album is just boring. None of these songs feel like they go anywhere. I loved Switchfoot when I was a kid but this thing has aged badly for me. Overly generic lyrics and ideas. This album gave me very little reason to stick around until the end.
Afterlife and Restless are alright.
This is probably Switchfoot’s most consistently good project, although there are a stinker or two here. There are more 70/100 songs here than any other project up to this point in their career. This was my favorite project by them when I was growing up and I’m glad that I feel mostly the same about that.
I’ve been listening to their discography in order and this is the first time there’s been a noticeable increase in quality. Many of the problems that plagued The Beautiful Letdown are still present here but I’d say less so. The more straight forward songs hit harder and there are less bad moments. However, I felt Golden to get more intolerable the longer it went on, and it’s easily my least favorite from this project. The Blues suffers from Switchfoot’s seemingly ... read more
A couple of decent bops here mixed in with a bunch of vanilla radio filler. The only thing that really makes these tracks stand out are the bass lines, which are probably the best in their discography. The title track is the best thing here I think, but is an example of the band biting off more than they can chew. It’s ambitious but they don’t really have the chops to pull it off. A decent listen with a few decent songs, a few bad, and a whole lotta mid.
I grew up listening to this band, specifically the first 7 or 8 albums. I wanted to go back and listen through their discography and see how it holds up for me.
That being said, the only thing saving this album’s score is Love is the Movement and the closer. The rest is mid to terrible. Poparazzi is the worst thing they’ve done up to this point. The song is legitimately terrible and annoying. The best thing about the band at this point in time are the bass parts. This album is ... read more
On this album, Switchfoot puts much more effort into the production, but forget to write much of anything that’s interesting. Every time I found myself bobbing my head, they found a way to kneecap the song with an eye roll worthy lyric or instrumental phrase. Overall a significant downgrade from their previous album.
Favorite tracks: Company Car, Under the Floor

This is a mixed bag of a debut album. It has some of their best songs like Bomb, Chem 6a, and Home, but I think the song writing gets boring on tracks like Concrete Girl and Don’t be There. The mixing and recording of the title track is also just dog shit. Not a bad album by any means, it just has some speed bumps.
