I can see an appeal to Haunted Mound as a whole through a lens of “it’s so bad, it’s good.” However, Butcher House is very lackluster in terms of production diversity and vocal performances. I was quite bored by this record, to the point that even hearing the droned lyrics “only good cop is a dead cop” couldn’t draw a reaction from me. Greatest coherent collection of rhymes I’ve ever heard, with production that could stand alone with juggernauts such as Donuts and TPAB. DOOM doesn’t grow leisurely for a single bar on this entire record, Madlib kills it behind him. Easily the best dynamic duo of the 2000s, likely hip-hop history.
