With a sharp focus on bliss and multi instrumental flow this album reflects Hilton's time as part of Thievery Corporation while still remaining it's own separate features. 'Infinite Everywhere' has clearly flown under the radar, which is a disappointment considering this album has much to offer. It's obvious each song was constructed with care and although it can be a bit spread out in terms of style and genre, it has great flow. Jazz, electronic, trip-hop, reggae, and calm instrumental ... read more
Had a strong desire to go back and listen to one of my 100s. This album truly defines the limits that electronic music can reach.
Travel deep down into the electronic butcher shop of a dystopian future, it's dark and grungy but has this sort of beauty that is almost indescribable. This album is a journey, and one that I've embarked on many times over the years. Mezzanine is not an album I'll throw on lightly but I've never been disappointed when I do. Simply put it's of those few albums that ... read more
If you're going to listen to this album it's best done through an incognito browser so that it never has to make contact with any sort of recommended music list in the future.
Happy to help.
A little over repetitive to be worth any repeat listens this album has some rather interesting ideas thrown into it. Electronic, otherworldly, and fast paced, this album has some interesting concepts to offer. Where it falls short is Aleksi's unwillingness to expand past repetitive sounds layered in a sometimes annoying overly systematic fashion. This album unfortunately leaves the listener a bit too exhausted and overstimulated in all the wrong ways. I really think Perala will hit the nail on ... read more
It's not bad by any means but every time I try this album I feel bored by the end of it. Parker has gone down further into the same pop direction of "Currents" but this time it feels a bit more washed out than before. This album overall lacks a dynamic feel leaving me somewhat more tired of his sound with each listen. It's too bland to be a good pop album, and far to monotone to be a psych rock album.
Perhaps I'm being too harsh but I was just hoping for a little more but really ... read more
Subtle melodies, ambient soundscapes, with a flair of Four Tet's semi experimental brain dance composition. Overall this album doesn't hit me as hard as some of his past work but it doesn't really have to. It comes as no surprise that this album has received some negativity, his venture into the ambient space may be off beat for many IDM fans. However, at no point during any of my listens have I felt turned off from what is presented in Sixteen Oceans.
Four Tet has left many of the ... read more
I've been following Mac since the early days and had mixed feelings for his music releases over the years. This album however holds few of those mixed feelings. Solid movement, consistent production quality, and meaningful lyrics. I think this album holds few negatives and is on of the shining gems of Mac's discography. A good final sound.
Thoughtful lyrics layered between moving synth melodies and simple yet satisfying percussion beats. This album encapsulates a sense of the artists uneasiness with the the world around him through proper synth pop execution. Tracks like "The Coolest Thing I've ever done" breath wisdom through an incredibly soothing composition. "The New You" demonstrate the artists ability to blend 80's style beats with more modern synth sounds and progression. It's both interesting and ... read more
I've listened to this album a handful of times in the past and with each listen it has only gotten better. It was only until I got a significant headphone upgrade that I felt the need to give this a full review.
This album was made to encapsulate ambience in eerie drone filled layers. The Arrival soundtrack will surely overwhelm you at times, and while it may fall into the ambient genre it is from the part of the genre that encourages peaceful listening. String instruments and analog ... read more
It's 2020, I guess this is the year for me to listen to my first anime EP.
As far as music goes, I checked this album out because it had a high rating with 6 reviews so I figured it might have something going for it. I guess I can sort of understand why this doesn't have any highly negative feedback. It's overall well put together. While I can't understand the lyrics the percussion is all around pretty solid, it's got some classic rock styled guitar riffs that are alright but really nothing ... read more
The house beat wasn't actually that bad in the first song but the piano slamming used to mirror it was over the top, and the while effective repetitiveness can allow you to digest different parts of the compositions on some songs there was nothing to digest. The second track goes into some half ass screaming lyrics that really repulsed any hope I had for the EP. Without any lyrics this final song might have been able to be turned into something worth while. At least this one had some slightly ... read more
Music like this is difficult for me to put a number on, because quite honestly I feel under qualified in rating almost anything in the modern classical genre. I am a little more comfortable with ambient music, so I will give it a go.
Both of these men are highly talented and the talent is reflected consistently on "Trance Frendz". It's interesting how they can layer so many ambient instrumentals over a more transitional piano melody. Some of these songs can be as peaceful as they ... read more
DJ boring has created something special with this EP. While "For Tahm" stays consistent to Boring's lo-fi house/D&B style, he makes room for some interesting IDM influenced melodies. While this EP has much of the same flow that I felt on his 2017 EP "Different Dates", it has a few tracks that are for more experimental. The song "Stuck in Russia" has some amazing progression interwoven with many sounds that you wouldn't expect coming from someone know for his ... read more
I have only recently started to familiarize myself with Lenzman, who creates some extremely pleasant D&B tracks. "Bobby" is a well put together album with a solid lineup. The subtle and effective use of a more traditional sounding piano mixed into the heavy and more aggressive drums and bass is excellent. Lenzmans ability to include a multitude of instruments and sounds keeps this album intriguing all the way through. He is not afraid to branch his melodies out into the world of ... read more
This EP has three quick but great electronic tracks. I would honestly like to see what Dear Lola could do in a full LP after listening to this. While his style is not normally something I'd vibe with it's simply catching. Nothing overly complex but sometimes that's just what you want. The strongest song is the first, the weakest song is the last.
A good one to throw on when you're cruising in the car, on your way to grab a drink with the squad.
A satisfying mix of digital and analog harmonics. Trance sounds, drone influence, good use of Asian percussion. The gongs were a little too pronounced at times but it doesn't take away from the album as a whole. If you want something to throw on in the background to let your mind wander in and out of the music, this is a good album to accomplish that. Doesn't offer a whole lot I haven't heard before in the genre. Just an overall solid ambient album.
It can be extremely difficult to rate an album like this. Benn Horne is playing with unique soundscapes, melodic noises, drone vibrations, and majestic layering. Songs such as "Innerfearance" entice my emotions in similar ways that Harold Budd has done on some of his darker ambient albums. This is not necessarily an album you listen to for its complexities, although it has them. The best songs are the most 'traditional'. When Horne tries to break out of the ambient electronic mold in ... read more
Kind of had mixed feelings about this album at first. On one hand none of the tracks are terrible but almost none of them really stood out. K.Flay still has slightly above average lyrics, popped up beats and beneficial angst, don't get me wrong. The album just didn't really accomplish much.
"Solutions" is a series of songs about relationships and self reflection. The album opens up with probably it's strongest songs "I like Myself", where K. Flay gives critique of modern ... read more
This album has a few tracks with some decent percussion, too bad the rest of it is basically a giant pile of garbage. This album felt like it should have been made in 2009, the lyrics are way overproduced in all the worst ways. Popcaan tried to make a Latinx influenced Rasta-pop album, but he did such an awful job. I don't know what this artist thinks he's making, but it's not good. His lack of creativity is at times staggering. If you took his voice out of every single song on this LP and ... read more
This EP is bland and boring. Repetitive bass lines, middle school level drumming, uninteresting lyrics; the list goes on. Listening to this EP gave me about as much pleasure as eating a half stick of butter would.
