Let me preface this with I am a bug fan of James Taylor and his music and influence. That being said this album for me wasn't everything I had expectations of. Obviously the hit track "Fire & Rain" elicits such raw and powerful emotion with its lyricism and its simple chords. But some of the other tracks were less profound and thought provoking. For me this is my perfect album. For some reason I keep coming back to this album and I can't place my finger on why exactly I love it so much. It could be the lead singers unique voice, it could be the building of a chorus in multiple songs/ the eerie yet fun instrumentals. Or it could just be that its plain good. Regardless I'm so happy that this album exists.
A fantastically driven and ambitious project that details the Civil War in a punk rock sound. This may sound preachy and overly artistic but the song writing is often focused, self-aware, and sometimes charming even within the screaming sounds of battle sprinkled throughout.
Im a big fan of RTJ, Zack De la Roche and Killer Mike and they've done it again. I love their bombastic style and 90's style rapping over incredible production. Their verses are always charged with thought provoking and disturbing imagery, but is none the less an accurate assessment of America and the BLM movement today. Its Sufjan with some his happiest, what more do you need to know. Disappointed he didn't do all 50 states like he promised fuggin quitter.
