Really enojyable, even though something is missing.
I liked Impera more than most, but going full romantic AOR on this one was definitely a choice. This album lacks punch, a more dynamic production, and sometimes even that catchy quality that made the band's fortune.
I wouldn't expect depth or heft from Ghost, just the tongue in cheek semi-gothic entertainment that brought us quite a few bangers and earworms so far.

The least listenable record since they went "gonzo" with roughly recorded hipster nonsense. I'm not talking about melody or "polishing that shit in stereo" like they sang on the previous (decent) album. This one is actually hard to have on without recoiling here and there. The random talking is the worst, and most of their creativity is mushed and lost.
I can't tell if they hate labels or they hate people. Probably both.
Such a waste.
Absolutely spectacular.
It's a difficult album that still makes for an immersive and stimulating experience.
The sinister story pairs with complex arrangements. Akerfeldt voice is amazing, whether he's growling or singing, or serving Scott Walker/David Bowie baritone. The addition of narration and other surprising elements was poignant, and everyone is at their best - including the new monster of a drummer.
