The Strokes - Room on Fire

Slightly worse than the debut, but still great. Reptilia is their best song.

Bob Dylan - Bob Dylan
58

For one of the greatest songwriters of all time, this is quite weak; the lack of budget coupled with an inexperienced Dylan results in a relatively mediocre album with a few good songs sprinkled in. His voice has always been a topic of discussion, and on this album I could understand the critics—not the best I’ve heard from him.

The Beatles - Abbey Road

I decided to rate the second half as 1 piece of music seeing as the songs don’t really make sense individually, it might just be the best side of any album ever made.

The Stooges - The Stooges
75

I like it, this one definitely has potential to grow on me quite a bit, but for now I think it’s just very solid.

sombr - I Barely Know Her
46

It’s just very mediocre pop-rock

The Beatles - The Beatles
97

The sprawling nature of this album is something you either love or hate, but I personally think it makes for a very interesting listen. In moving away from their psychedelic sound almost entirely, the band opts for a much more stripped-back style, ditching the wacky studio experimentation of their previous three projects. This shift—combined with the fact that many songs were written individually rather than as a group—leads to their most personal and intimate songwriting to ... read more

The Beach Boys - Shut Down Volume 2
40

Another pretty boring album, “Don’t Worry Baby” is a very enjoyable song—the best they’ve made so far—but it doesn’t make up for how lacklustre the rest of the album is.

83

I still think this is a very good album with some real high points, but it’s definitely the weakest of the first five. Sonically, it feels more overproduced than the first four, which had a more grounded, live feel. The guitars are more layered, the vocals more theatrical, and the overall sound is far more polished than its predecessors. The ambition is clearly there, but overall it leads to a weaker tracklist.

“Sabbra Cadabra,” however, is a perfect example of these new ... read more

Olivia Dean - The Art of Loving
54

On first listen, I don’t really see the hype. All I hear is ok pop-soul with a few catchier moments.

Jeff Buckley - Grace
92

This album is basically the connecting piece between two of my favourite bands, led zeppelin and Radiohead, so it was basically a guarantee that I’d enjoy this.

The Beach Boys - Little Deuce Coupe
38

These early 60s albums are rough, it’s all so predictable and repetitive. The vocals are good but everything else is just boring and dated, can’t wait to get to the more interesting stuff.

The Rolling Stones - The Rolling Stones
48

It’s just a bit dull, nothing on here really gripped me and had me wanting to hear it ever again.

The Beach Boys - Surfer Girl
48

A slight improvement, but still very bland. They sure like surfin.

The Beach Boys - Surfin' U.S.A.
42

It’s just bland for the most part. It’s not entirely their fault, seeing as it came out in ’63, but it’s very uneventful nonetheless.

David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
97

Another massive step up for Bowie. I have no idea how anyone could dislike this album—it’s just too much fun. This is where he fully embraces glam rock, and he pulls it off perfectly. All of his eccentricity and ambition are channeled into something cohesive, consistent, and ultimately, a masterpiece.

Central Cee - ALL ROADS LEAD HOME
35

This is the definition of boring—he talks about the same shit over and over again in the most surface level way possible. The beats are ok at best and his delivery on some of these songs is hard to listen to, especially the last one.

The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour
90

The best 1967 Beatles album.

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Bayou Country
72

A slight improvement from their debut, with noticeably higher peaks, but it still lacks consistency across the full track list . The band leans too heavily on longer, more repetitive songs like “Graveyard Train” and “Keep On Chooglin’,” which drag out ideas and bring down the overall experience. I hope they move towards more ambitious and varied writing on their next few albums.
That being said, Proud Mary is easily the best thing they’ve written so far, ... read more

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath Vol. 4
90

Another stellar album from the creators of metal. This is their first without producer Rodger Bain, and the band take a clear step forward in handling production themselves. They move away from the dense, crushing heaviness of Master of Reality toward a sound that feels more open and atmospheric at times, which works especially well on tracks like “Snowblind” and the opener. It’s not quite as consistent as their first three outings, but it still stands right alongside them.
