Armand Hammer - Mercy

Dissappointed, its not bad but just so boring and repetetive nothing stands out. Listened to it once and half way through forgot i was listening to something, best described as white noise. felt like i was listening to the same beat for the whole run time and forgot all the lyrics instantly

billy woods & Kenny Segal - Hiding Places

Great album overall, thematically consistent in sound and lyrics being dark and rough. The tracks are relatively simple but creative and memorable with amazing production, lyrics are delivered sharply and fit the dark tone perfectly with a degree of nihilistic narration. Favourite part has to be the very impactfull instrumentals that deliver a lot of emotion and create a very strong consistent atmosphere, with tracks like spider hole, red dust and a day in a week especially

There's a lot i love about this album, the mixing of different styles works out really well and makes for a fun listen with just enough self awareness for the goofy shit, i wasnt bored at any point. Overall great release

Danny Brown - Quaranta

Very different from what i expected, positively surprised all over.

The title track is a great example of why i think guitar goes well with rap, for emotional lyrics good old gloomy strings boost the feelings

Tantor is just a nice banger track, good energy and all that, fun lyrics and i love the chorus

Aint my concern is fucking amazing, the vibe is just right and the lyrical content is great. Very old school ish with a modern coat of paint

this band needs more attention in the west, recently found them while diving through post punk history and was positively surprised by this group.

Everything is fairly simple but delivers a lot of emotions and gets the message across, the anti war lyrics are well appriciated in these times. Victor's vocal delivery is great, cold and sort of tired but not monotonous which perfectly fits what i imagine the late soviet era as from the avarage peoples perspective.

Got recommend this artist after discovering some other russian post punk acts, listened to 3 albums of theirs extensively for the past couple weeks.

The difference to contemporary western artists is pretty stark, theres a very distinct bleakness and well executed simplicity on display here, and i enjoyer it.

I recommend learning about the 1980-1990 era of russia to get some context for the situation for context

im only sleeping really struck me as the "oh shit this is what theyre on about" track, the song structure while fairly straightforward under the hood is brilliantly layered with stuff to the point of perfectly flowing you into a vibe. stands the test of time very well in the world of psyche

Tomorrow never knows is for me the other big one, a bit gimmicky but it just works

Finally getting to this one, this was the least accessible jpeg album for me. I remember first listening this as my first exposure to jpegmafia, i didnt really get anything from it at the time, nothing really clicked. I did listen to veteran some other day and that was far more accessible with the general aggresive style that really clicked for me.

Been listening to LP now that ive understood the artist better and what im supposed to be looking for in his music, now i think its some of the ... read more

"Online music culture is awfull and some of the most pretentious/basic shit ive been a part of, people browse sites like RYM and AOTY, watch fantano or brad taste, then think their taste is very unique and obscure. But everyone involved in the online music sphere has the same exact topster consisting of popular online music. Thats what ive learned over a year of participating in this."
