Merzbow's old material gets remixed yet again, with even better results! It's another one of these industrial sound collages (although with a more rock influence this time) and it gets CRAZY.
At one point in the second track (Merzbox reissue-wise) this synthpop instrumental appears out of nowhere and gets obliterated by a wall of noise and later on Motörhead and Jimi Hendrix covers appear on this. I ... read more

In late 2013 a mysterious page for the band Sukekiyo appeared, featuring only silhouettes of the members and info about upcoming shows, one being Sugizo's where they would be the opening act.
Close to the concert, the members were finally revealed: DIR EN GREY's Kyo and great talent from bands known in the visual kei scene, probably surprising quite a few people.
IMMORTALIS is their first album and it feels like a mixed bag ... read more
The drum machine makes this sound like some crazy MIDI music. This is a good free jazz / noise rock or something record, although it gets too weird for it's own good in the second half. The last track, Rise of the Iridescent Behemoth, returns with the great stuff from the first half with the mood of the second one.

200TH REVIEW!!! Thank you if you care even a little bit about these reviews!
Masami and Kiyoshi cut up old Merzbow material and create this abrasive, industral beast. Great stuff.

Imagine early 80s free improv Merzbow trying to do late 80s industrial Merzbow. That's how Crocidura Dsi Nezumi sounds, it's not worthy of your time.

Collaboration between Merzbow and German artist S.B.O.T.H.I.
It's another one of these more industrial, atmospheric releases and well, it didn't grab me as much as the other ones.

Industrial musique concréte Merzbow and it's some really good, unnerving stuff. Each track offers a different experience. Great atmosphere, great release.
The third track included on reissues of this is just as good as the rest.

Imagine inviting Merzbow and telling them to play something more musical 💀
The first live show is something you would expect from them at this point. It's this noisy, building up free improv piece. Tapes, junk, guitar, drums, stuff like that, there's even some piano at a few moments. The people there probably weren't expecting this though.
The second one is where they were told to play something ... read more

Half of the Merzbox done! In just five days... something might be wrong with me.
Yet another release to use the material from Ecobondage to create something new.
Unlike it's sibling, Vratya Southward opts for dark ambient instead and it's nothing too special, Enclosure was much better.

The Merzbox only contains the first half so I filled myself in with the rest from a different source.
The Lampinak is like a harsher Sadomasochismo, just not as good.

Sadomasochismo is some pretty darn good industrial noise, a bit on the harsher side.

Tracks that didn't make it onto the Pornoise / 1kg set and well, it's as good as the high points of the Pornoise discs included in the Merzbox. There's quite a variety in the selection of tracks, probably thanks to it not really being a "proper" album.
SHAMBALA-AGARTHA NONMALT
アトム 未来派 No.9 [Atom Miraiha No.9] is BUCK-TICK's 20th album and continues their trend of switching sounds on every major release. Moving away completely from the psychedelia of 或いはアナーキー [Arui wa Anarchy], No.9 goes fully for a alternative rock sound with electronics sprinkled in, opting for a darker tone.

Slightly better than the second installment, still not as good as Dying Mapa I was.
MERZBOX DISC 15&16 / https://www.albumoftheyear.org/user/chtc/album/233220-merzbox/
Take Dying Mapa I and make it much much more boring, add some radio samples.

Something akin to the Collection series but with more rhythm thanks to the inclusion of stuff like drum machines. Some cool moments but sometimes it just drags for too long.
After being disappointed by DEG's Phalaris, the only thing left was waiting for Sukekiyo's next album and well, it delivered. EROSIO takes some of the sounds from INFINITUM and brings them to greatness, while yet again changing the band's sound. Just listen to the singles 訪問者X [Houmonsha X] and MOAN to hear the variety on this.
