If that new album they're working on isn't better than Phalaris I'm gonna be pissed.
Rinkaku is not only one of the best tracks on Arche, it's also one of the best in their discog. I don't know how to describe it; it's a prog metal kinda ballad?
The Kiri to Mayu remake goes hard and that Akira Yamaoka remix of Rinkaku is interesting.
Kodou is just beautiful. And Rakuen well, it's not the ambienty album version here, no, it's a rockin' banger.
Also that removal of that Quran sample actually makes Rakuen better because it was kinda out of place sonically (well at least in the album version).
I love having my brain sandpapered <3
It's a constantly changing beast who's goal is to bash your head in, very harsh and abrasive, if this is an embryo I don't even want to know what an adult sounds like.
Brutal loops and synths attack you for the entire time, only at the end of the tracks you get a little while to breathe. Masami's voice even makes it onto this thing!
Dada! The first side is comprised of many shorts tracks ranging from 10 seconds to 2 minutes and the second one is a single longer 20 minute track.
Masami plays around with samples and loops here. Some of the tracks on side A are more beat based than others. The final track goes into a slower, sound collage direction.
Maybe not essential Merzbow but still a good release. Great track names on this one for sure.
This is so harsh and so varied, like, a single track on here has more different sounds than some Merzbow albums have in their entire runtime. Amazing soundscapes, yet another 90s merzclassic.
In nearly a month I heard around 44 different Merzbow releases and that's without counting remasters and Merzbox-exclusive discs. I could've listened to multiple discographies instead, damn. And uhh, I'm going through the 60 CD box set soon and maybe the other ones after that... I'll ... read more
Masami does jazz noise. Quite rhythmic, not only a good album but also one of the better ones if you're getting into Merz.
What is that, a sequel!?? Released 5 years after the original, recorded between 1993/94, Music for Bondage Performance 2 is a much harsher release, especially at the beginning. It's deeper in the album where it starts becoming a bit more similar to the first part.
Damn, 200+ followers already!? I'd like to thank everyone supporting me.
Now, I'm one of the people that think that Calculating Infinity is their best album but that doesn't mean the rest of their discog isn't amazing.
Miss Machine is DEP's 2nd album and first with Greg Puciato on vocals. (Dimitri worked on the cover's layout!)
The band gets more experimental here: jazz elements and electronics appear. While more experimental it's also much more accessible ... read more
Can hear that Merzbow influence in those water sipping sounds 🔥🔥
This was a cool short ambient release! Wishing good luck!
Damn all this AOTY user listening makes me wanna touch a DAW or something else but I'm too lazy.
There's like 3 different versions of this thing. This, With Material Gadgets and the 2024 reissue on Kontakt Audio which also differs?? And the original release isn't exactly the original recording according to the reissues description? What a mess. What even is the real Batztoutai? I listened to the "original" 1986 vinyl release.
Military marches, electroacoustic works, modern classical works, films, porn, UFO recordings and more are all sampled by Masami and turned into ... read more
SUBROSA REDUX / RIP ATSUSHI SAKURAI
"The Parade goes on until we die. [And] even when we die it continues." ~ Atsushi Sakurai
After the death of a band member, many things can happen right after: disbandment, a replacement being found, existing members carrying on with their current line-up, existing material being used and nowadays maybe even using... AI.
Thankfully BUCK∞TICK chose to continue after Atsushi Sakurai's untimely passing, opting for the third option, with ... read more
Did I just rate this higher than Since I Left You? Yes.
This is one crazy album, it's like you got multiple CDs playing at the same time and skipping like crazy and you're also skimming through radio channels at the same time for shits and giggles.
Some switch must have flipped in my brain during autumn turning on noise mode. I have many discogs I have yet to finish and here I am listening to another Merz release.
I should finish Merzbient by the weekend and review it, it won't be a disc-by-disc review though, stay tuned.
Rainbow Electronics is a single 73-minute track (made from 21 hours of material!) and another release where you can see the shift towards harsh noise. It's a constantly changing collage of noise, might as well ... read more
D-Beat, Crust, Hardcore, a fucked up guitar tone, interesting.. vocals. Fucking beautiful, RIP Sakevi.
G.I.S.M is certainly one of the more important and interesting Japanese punk bands.
POLSKA GUROM
I don't really listen to much Polish music but I wanted to check out the local black metal scene for a while (yet again exploring a genre by not kistening to it's classics) and now is the best time because it's christma- I mean it's winter and cold!
Really cool mix of black metal and coldwave/post-punk.
Good afternoon, Sachiko, Toshimaru and Otomo!
I should've probably started with other Onkyo albums but I assume all the noise I heard and other stuff (like Ryoji Ikeda's Dataplex with it's rhythmic bleeps and bloops for example) conditioned me as I actually enjoyed this! It was a pretty interesting listen, with it's sine waves, turntable sounds and no-input mixing board; beautiful even with it's ear-piercing frequencies. I think the track titles fit them pretty well.
As Tauromachine and 1930 were made around the same time and I last heard this a long time ago I might as well listen to it.
Masami was a beast like no other in the 90s, a lot of his best was made in that decade. 1930 only strengthens that opinion as it's another great Merz release, Masami fucks up tapes nicely on here.
Does this man have a remaster that makes the album much worse? Because this and all the other ones I heard so far either are as good or better (even the covers are improved).
The additions on this are great! The mastering I would say is on par with the original.
The cover kinda reminds me of Shinsekai for obvious reasons, the name also I guess; Shinsekai translates into New World and 未来 [Mirai] translates into Future.
If you've only heard Midori, this is something completely different, no jazz, no insanity. This is a very nice folk pop album! (Although Mr. Amen Break appears on one song)
