Free improv Merz (this is 1981, duh). Masami fuck around with organ, violin, guitar and radio, you know the drill. This one is a bit more sparse and sometimes it's interesting but it's still Merzimprov and not the good kind.

Not great but it's a nice listen! In the right channel you have Kiyoshi playing keyboard and while the playing isn't amazing it's sounds are pleasant. In the left one you hear some quiet noise.
The second track sees Masami playing the drums for most of it's duration, returning to guitar and radio for the rest.
Cretin Merz is maybe even a little bit fun.
All Aburadako albums are self-titled and differentiated by their cover, this is the tree one.
Crazy, silly, art punk from Japan.
The dude's voice is uhhh unique for lack of a better word, personally I like it.

I listened to the 1st one so I might as well listen to this right after. The first part of the recording! (I explain why the order is switched in my review for the 1st one)
The tracks are much longer and it's less interesting than the first volume overall. Part 3 is where things get better, with some radio play included.

We're in 1980 baby! Another free improv release (who would've guessed!), with more of a rock influence this time for most of the duration.
It's actually the second half of this, but for some reason it was the first side on the tape so it's the first one here. The index of cassette tape was titled Pornoise 1 & 2 and the cassette was labelled MPor #1 and por#2. Masami chose ... read more
What I said about the regular version applies to this too. The last track is swing with Takuya of Judy and Mary playing guitar and it's quite a different experience from the original. He also helped produce the single!
3 great new tracks. Swing (the single) is the inbetween of Aratamemashite and Shinsekai.
The forth one is the karaoke version for swing, the instrumental is great so I have no issue with that.
When you're happy, you enjoy the music, when you're sad, you understand the lyrics.

Disco Volante is a very wild ride, I won't even bother telling you all the genres in this because it still won't prepare you for what's coming. The self-titled and California are easy listening (pun intended) compared to ... read more
Fantômas strap you to an operating table for 74 minutes with no anesthesia. In a complete 180° turn this album is a single track, not a load of tiny ones. It definitely has sections though. Easy listening, chanting, metal and more all appear here, connected together by ambience and sounds of surgery. If you need to clean your head from the disturbing atmosphere of this, listen to Suspended Animation as it's basically the opposite.
The last 20 minutes are the sounds of turntable ... read more
Patton does weird ass noises while Dave Lombardo, Buzz Osborne and Trevor Dunn play some messed up metal with samples thrown into the mix, never really crossing the 2 minute mark (only one track does that). The other Fantômas albums are much better but there are some cool moments here.

The B-side to the recording included on the limited edition of Duo: Masami Akita & Kiyoshi Mizutani Selected Studio Sessions 1987-89.
Masami plays organ on the first track and Kiyoshi plays the drums, switching places for the second track.
The organ playing isn't great and the drums aren't all that interesting or fitting. The second track is a small improvement from the first one ... read more
[R.I.P] Ugh / IF YOU LIKED THIS YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT THE OTHER ALBUMS, THIS IS DEEP DIVE MATERIAL
Time to get controversial and say that I'm not all that crazy about Since I Left You and that this is the best plunderphonics album.
Arkhaiomelisidonophunikheratos is Satanicpornocultshop's 9th album (if I'm counting properly in their big, slightly weird discog) and it's them at their peak. Apparently it's also a concept album about the Iraq War according to the ... read more
Listening to this just because of the great cover was worth it. Someone also mentioned it in a review for BUCK-TICK's Juusankai wa Gekkou. They weren't comparing it to this though. I recommend that album wholeheartedly but it's something completely different from Technique of Relief.
This mix of electronic and orchestral is amazing. Full of beautiful songs, even the fun ones are gorgeous. I certainly need to revisit the Paprika soundtrack now.

Merzbow's first recording, yes, even older than OM Electrique (this was recorded 2 months before).
Organ played by Kiyoshi and drums played by Masami grace your ears from the beginning. You could almost call this dance music (well it's still free improv) which is a surprise when looking at the other early Merz releases.
A synth is introduced on Part 2 and the drums are absent until ... read more
10 hours of Merzbow recorded from 1987 to 1990, released in 2010.
This isn't exactly an ambient release, while mixed quietly, it's noise you could expect from Merz at this point of time, yet the layers of noise work like ambient here. It's certainly not calming, the atmosphere is dark actually.
Merzbient manages to stay engaging for the entire 10 hours (doesn't mean you should necessarily listen to it in one go) as the tracks change over time and there's quite some ... read more
Okay, that was the test run, now we're gonna go for the Olympic gold.
Grand Guignol begins with it's title track which sets the ominous tone of the album and is different from the rest of the first half with it's freak outs and ambience. The rest of this half is filled with jazz renditions of chamber music which are calming and eerie at the same time.
Now why am I talking about only the first one? Because the second is where the fun begins, the track Blood Is Thin kicks off the ... read more
Amazing album and great starting point for Merzbow's harsher material. A bit of psychedelia, great sounds, never gets stale. I can see why some people think this is his best (and well, it landed pretty high in my ranking so yeah).
Yet another '96 Merz album which is better than Pulse Demon (doesn't mean that PD is a bad one). Sadly gets a bit directionless at times.
Mike Patton vocal stim compilation
For what's basically a dude fucking around in a hotel room with a tape recorder, it's fine. It's certainly entertaining and there is some variety (from rapidly chopped up vocals to quite ambient(?) pieces).
Being called a punk choir, I guess it fits becaude this isn't a very normal acapella album. Overall enjoyable, there were some great moments on this but the rest wasn't as interesting. Some pieces could have been shorter or change things up more.
